President Trump: Part II

Now he's going to remove restrictions that were designed to prevent another meltdown like 2008?

Again, the white rich get theirs, and **** everyone else.

Shadenboner gone yet, conservatards?

Cohn says it's "like putting only healthy food on the menu, because unhealthy food tastes good but you still shouldn't eat it because you might die younger."

That's probably going to be fairly effective -- associating it with "healthy foods" -- with reactionaries. To them it will probably signal, "The SJWs won't be running your life any longer!"

The ironic factor is, the law also protects financial advisors. Part of the reason that regulation was written was some advisors complained, they (the advisors) were sometimes ordered to sell products to retirees that were not good investments because "that's what the bosses wanted sold." The advisors are usually pretty far down on the corporate ladder and don't have the power to tell their manager, "I'm not selling that garbage." The law provided some cover as they could complain selling defective products could make them liable under that regulation.

The US Defence Secretary James Mattis has said any use of nuclear weapons by North Korea would be met with an "effective and overwhelming" response.

My understanding is that N Korea has an awful lot of ordinance aimed at Seoul ready to fire. Would the US "overwhelming" response cause N Korea to reduce Seoul to a reasonable sized crater?

To be fair, that is standard US doctrine. Similair Warnings to NK were issued under Obama.
I think by Use they mean used as a weapon.

Double servings of Freedom!

....

How anyone can blame the losing party in this mentalness is beyond me. "You didn't lie enough, you didn't dumb things down so far they're meaningless." Is this the objection?
Addressing the false dichotomy here, one need not necessarily lie or "dumb things down so far they're meaningless" to be an effective marketer. But one does need to look at the science of marketing and use it to promote the candidate. The Democrats keep screwing that part up.

... And just as you feel Sceptic Ginger defends Clinton blindly, ....
For the record, Emily's Cat 'feels' that way because s/he can't hear me when I distinguish between the usual flaws political candidates have and the BS that was piled on Clinton.

I don't think that's entirely fair - people were so invested in the lies that IMO no amount of countering from Hillary would have made a blind bit of difference and could have backfired if she came across as hectoring, condescending or indeed crushing people's dreams.

IMO if someone is like Trump and is unabashed with his lies there's not much you can do. If the past if a politician was caught in a lie then they tended to go on the defensive and as a result were damaged by it. Trump OTOH just brazens it out or even doubles down. I don't think you can learn to do that or fake it (otherwise it comes across as false) I think it's "gift".

Wow, twice in as many days I find myself in rare agreement with Meadmaker. I don't believe Trump was as good as you imply. I saw Clinton make some mistakes such as not having a rapid comeback for Comey's last minute letter. Instead of outrage Clinton looked dumbfounded. Saying they asked Comey to finish as quickly as possible is but one of a few key errors that might have made a difference.

I believe this is accurate. I don't think anyone has thought of an effective counter to what happened yet. I hope someone does.
Dude, any top notch marketer could counter another top notch marketer. It's really annoying this elevation of Dear Leader into godhood.

Blame google. It was the first hit.

I live in Detroit, which is reasonably close to Bowling Green.. I remember when the news story broke, so when I saw KellyAnne refer to the Bowling Green Massacre, I knew exactly what she meant.

Yes, the administration lies, but not this time.

Wrong. But maybe if you say it enough times....

In other news, remember the criticism of Obama is that he destroyed our reputation around the world and no one respected the US any more? I know it's nonsense, and that Obama was highly respected outside the US, but we certainly heard that claim here.

Check out the cover for the most recent Der Spiegel. Here, among other places

See all that respect for the US!

Oh yeah, the international community is just loving us.

Then again, Putin is happy, so that he's got that going for him.

Trump does not want the US respected;he wants the US Feared.
Sorry, but that is not going to work in 2017. I am waiting to see when Trump tries this crap with the Chinese and see what happens.

Trump orders review that could relax Dodd-Frank bank rules

US President Donald Trump has taken his first step to try to scale back US financial services regulations.

He signed an executive order to review the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial regulations, which some people on Wall Street say are overly-restrictive.

The law was brought in after the 2008-09 financial crisis with the aim of avoiding another financial meltdown.

"Dodd-Frank is a disaster," Mr Trump said earlier this week.

He added: "We're going to be doing a big number on Dodd-Frank."

Mr Trump made it a campaign pledge to repeal and replace the Dodd-Frank act, which also created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

This US government agency seeks to make sure banks, lenders, and other financial companies treat US consumers fairly.

To think some people were worried that one of the candidates gave a speech to some bankers.
