President Pence could be worse...

Pence doesn't have the Teflon coating of Trump. Neither has he the fig-leaf of inexperience.

It is only because he has kept out of the limelight as much as possible so far that he has survive unscathed.

I don't think that the Republican base would support him no matter what the way they support Trump. He would have to deliver, and given the devisions in the GOP, that wouldn't be easy.

Do people think he will keep himself distant enough not to get caught up in all this with trump if the republicans kick trump out and we wouldn't end up with Ryan who used to fantasize about ending medicare while in college?

Pence is also level-headed and wouldn't tweet out ridiculous policy changes every morning.

Those who aren't far right social conservatives won't like his policies, but at least it won't be total chaos.

He will be just another Gerry Ford, pardoning Trump for Rusia. But he will put up a couple of abortion fights and appoint ultraconservative judges.

It really does not matter if Pence is better than Trump or if Pence is worse than Trump.

If Pence does get into office via a Trump impeachment/resignation, then Pence will have very little, if any credibility on which to build his own base of political support because he was such a strong supporter of Trump. As a result, Pence (and everyone else) is still in a horrible situation.

Vice-president, then President, Ford knew all too well about this sort of thing.

Nope, he surely is awful but so would basically any Republican be in that position. It the Grand Old Party of Awful. GOPA. He's likely not half as criminal, impulsive and irresponsible as Trump. And likely not in Russian pay (as it is quite likely that Trump businesses have been involved in sanction breaking and money laundering if not worse).

Pence will hire Ivanka as VP, then resign after having confiscated all the forfeit assets and dope for personal use.

I feel Pence would at least try to make sense but doing to would merely highlight the fact that there is no sense to be made.

I agree with Lawrence Krauss on this:
"I'd rather have an evil prick as president than a lunatic" --Lawrence Krauss

I think if you take the position that we should oust Trump because of his Norm breaking, you have to declare that a norm adhering Pence is acceptable in the short term. It is probably the only way to separate marginal supporters.

I kind of half-heartedly agree. So far the only bright spot in the current political nightmare is the ineffectiveness of Trump and the Republican Congress in getting anything done. This would normally be a negative, and still could be if there is something like a war, natural disaster or economic crisis that actually requires that something get done. However, given that damn near everything in Trump's agenda is negative, the inability to actually get any of it done is a good thing.

I don't know if Pence would actually be any more effective than Trump, but if he is, that is likely to be a negative.

He can't be significantly more effective. Part of the reason that the Republicans can't get things done in Congress might be the occupant of the Oval Office, but the root problem for them is that there was no true national mandate in the last election. More moderate Republicans know that, if the Republican-controlled Congress pushes through a hardcore conservative agenda, they could have a hard time getting reelected (and, as a bonus, moderates aren't in favor of such an agenda in the first place).

The best they can reasonably hope for right now is keeping the Democrats in check, and the sooner they realize that the sooner they'll be willing to boot the current occupant of the Oval Office out on its ass. In large part, they'll have to settle for getting the judicial appointments they want...which still isn't great for those of us on the left.

and whacked off to those fantasies I am certain. It is in the republicker blood!!!!!

For all of which may he burn in this life and any others!
