- Brokaw Jennings and Rather: all sacked. They will either be forced to retire in a big show for ratings, or canned unceremoniously like happened at CNN. They are old, ratings are down, money talks, so clean out your office and turn in your badge. Naturally, they will be replaced by young blonde females and the whitest token black males you've ever seen.

- Hillary will run, possibly as VP or perhaps on her own. Why, you ask? Because she can't afford to wait, and she knows it. Do you know what 4 years does to a woman her age? Sex appeal matters tremendously in elections, possibly more than anything else. I frequently sight Shannon O'Brien's loss in massachusetts. A popular description of her was that she "reminds men of their first wife". Same with Hillary. Folks are initially attracted to her powerful traits, but eventually come to realize that she's simply a b!tch. Take away her looks by 2008, and you're left with an ugly b!tch. And if you don't think people vote on sexuality, you are likely mistaken about many things in life.

- Perhaps because I'm local, I see Boston as a likely terrorist target. It's often ignored being so close to NY. Consider, too, the original hijackers flew out of logan. The mayor's office is grossly incompetent, and seems to think parking a state trooper on the highway will stop an 18-wheeled truck bomb from blowing up the Big Dig. (I will NEVER travel in a Boston tunnel...) Cambridge would be a great place for terrorists to operate, as it's choked with PC tolerance for anything counter-cultural (as in killing Americans).

- Bush selects a different V.P., one who can win in 2008. Rice is a likely candidate, as nothing would upset the liberals more than a black woman as president.

- UN will remain in charge of both Bosnia and Kosovo. The people there will have to continue to wait for self-determination.

- Despite the UN rule, availabilty of electricity and water will remain inconsistent in Kosovo.

- Afghanistan will hold elections and vote in some fairly rough characters. They will ratify a constitution that not many of us would want to live under. NATO will continue to have a troop presence there performing peacekeeping operations. The US will continue to have a separate troop presence.

- Iraq will continue to flare up, occassionaly, but the coalition will hand over sovereignty in the summer, roughly on schedule. Coalition troop numbers will drop, international participation will increase. The US will continue to spend money there.

- Bush will be re-elected, and the majorities in both the Senate and the House will increase. He won't get a filibuster-proof Senate, however. Dean will go down in flames, making HRC the natural heir to the leadership of the party. Deaniacs will not be amused.

- Republicans will make a huge issue out of gay marriage, which will help them enormously at the polls. (next year, and probably next year only)

- The PA will run out of money. Arafat won't survive in office past this summer without causing a civil war.

- Kyoto goes unratified.

- Let's not forget the unspoken death-watch on certain members of the Senate. Byrd and Kennedy always look ready to collapse, McCain and Kerry had cancer... there's others too.

- It's not necessary for the right to say they oppose gay marriage, in fact it could backfire. The real question is whether the left vocally supports gay marriage, as that is what hurts them.

My prediction for 2004 is a simple one.

Campaigning for the election will consist primarily of both sides digging up as much dirt and flinging as much mud as they can at the other. Further both sides will deny doing so and/or blame the other side for starting it. A typical ad for both candidates will sound pretty much like the following, "Candidate X's record shows that he likes to throw widows and orphans into the street and eats babies. Eating babies is wrong! Write Candidate X and tell him that you strongly oppose baby eating!"

Whoever the Democrats pick to run against Bush will once again make the whole thing boil down to picking the lesser of two evils. It will be like deciding if one would rather be kidney punched or just kicked in the nuts really hard.

After this whole debacle, politicians and the press will publicly wonder aloud why there is such low voter turnout. Politicians will, of course, blame it on the tactics used by their opponents.

So if this all comes to pass, do I get my million? I have 100% confidence that my predictions will come to pass.

Are you guys going back to the 'naked games'?

That would be cool...

:D

In Antiquity , only men could attend the events. According to the tradition the mother of an athlete, Callipatera, got dressed like a man and she sneaked in the Stadium of Olympia to watch her son winning the race. She got so excited that while she run to hug him her chiton fell off her , revealing her gender. The penalty for the women who dared to ignore the Law was death but Callipatera of Rhodes was the daughter, the wife and the mother of Olympic Champions, so she escaped death but since then the athletes were compeeting naked.

Of course the truth is different. As we know from ancient sources many accidents occured with those chitons especially among the racers and the charioteers, so athletes for their safety started competing naked!

Sure, tell that to the Olympic wrestling team.

My picks to click:

Military and economic pressure will be brought to bear against Syria after details of dirty deals and possible WMD relocation are confirmed by captured Iraqi leaders. Syria will fold without forcing a full invasion. Naturally AUP and Fool will blame it all on the Jews.

Dean will self-destruct after capturing the nomination, possibly via spontaneous combustion during the third debate. Republican holds on congress and the Senate will remain steady or slightly increase as Democrats opt to stay home. AUP and Fool will blame it on the Jews.

Kasmir will flare up again like a scorching case of herpes. Hey, it's due. No resolution or significant combat will occur, but half a dozen civilians will be killed by the Jews, according to AUP and Fool.

Some random African nation will implode and devolve into a bloody ethnic civil war. Don't have to be psychic to guess that one. Jews will be implicated, yadda yadda.

If I recall correctly, though, they had a separate set of games similar to the Olympics for women. I don't recall if they competed in the nude, though. my memory is fuzzy on this so I could be wrong though.

Also, didn't they have a form of bullfighting (on Crete I think) where bare breasted women would let bulls charge them and then they would grab the bulls by the horns and somersault over them? That would have been a sight to see.

We know about the Heraea in the city of Argos to honor Goddess Hera but those Games didn't have the glory of the Olympic Games that were considered the absolute event!

We are talking about 600 years earlier--at least- than the first Olympic Games :) Taurokarthapsia! The position of the women in Crete was much different than in the the rest of "Greece". The Minoan society was matriarchal totalitarian :D So, yes, those femi-nazis were engaged in Bull-jumping to amuse themselves...

Yes. Yes it would.

Yep, that's what I was thinking of, I didn't remember the name but I recall it now that you have jarred my memory. I knew they weren't as prestigious as the Olympics but it wasn't it the highest of its kind for women?

Interesting. Greek history isn't my strong suit so I was unaware that it predated the Olympics and that Cretan civilization was so different than that of the rest of Greece. So thanks.:)

Senator Joe Lieberman will be elected President of the United States, Yasser Arafat will be hired to work in the White House kitchen, and Hillary Rodham Clinton will be appointed as Presidential food taster.

George W. Bush will enroll at a madrassa and begin memorizing the Koran.

Salman Rushdie will be elected President of Afghanistan.

Controversy over the manner in which Kurt Godel died will lead to efforts to exhume the body, but the grave will be empty and a new religion will arise.

Make all the athletes tatoo their nations flags on their backs so we know who they represent. :D

The only part of Classical Civilizations class that woke me up was the part about the island of Lesbos.

What was the topic again? I'm thinking about lesbos now.

You're always thinking about lesbos though...
