A famous person will die in an untimely fashion and the press will engage in an orgy of 'what made X tick?' stories and gloppy eulogies in their place in the pop culture pantheon.

Some sports team will win some big whoop-de-do game. A team member will do something which proves their 'not a role model' stance.

Francisco Franco will still be dead.

I'd like my MDC money in wrinkled US one dollar bills, so I can sleep in it, like a hamster, please.

Ambiguity is your friend when forecasting. "I see danger for Louisiana/Alabama" would have scored a hit for any hurricanes as well as any oil spills. "I see danger approaching Louisiana/Alabama" would have given you a hit for a hurricane headed there before changing course or if the oil leak had been quickly plugged.

Don't worry about being too ambiguous. If someone had gone on record with a 2010 prediction of "I see danger approaching Louisiana/Alabama," that person would be the lead segment on Coast to Coast and might even get a couple of minutes on Good Morning, America.

It's actually the success of Ronnie O'Sullivan's manager Barry Hearn which has had the profound affect on Snooker's rebirth. Ronnie let me down only getting as far as the quarter finals in the World Championship.

19 named storms (only the third time that has happened since 1887).

My advice for predictions like these is to say things like the U.S. will see fewer storms than average. That way, if the season is milder than expected, you get a hit. But if the season is not lighter than expected and the storms steer clear of the U.S. (as they did in 2010 - no category 1 or higher made landfall on the U.S.) you can still claim a hit.

One wants as many "outs" as possible in the prediction racket.

Oh sure, there are quack doctors out there who want your money. Does that mean there are no real doctors out there who care about your health? Of course not.

By the same token, you are not at liberty to assume that there aren't real psychics out there who are above looking at it all as a mere "racket".

An asteroid will be discovered less than 6 weeks before it collides with the Moon. Despite widespread panic, the impact will not affect humanity in any way. The new crater will be on the far side of the Moon, NASA and the ESA will plan a joint mission to look at it.
