I wish I could say I was astonished to read this:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-10941653

Pope Benedict XVI has not accepted the resignations of two Irish bishops who resigned at Christmas.

...snip...

They were bishops during the period covered by the Murphy Commission which examined abuse in the Dublin diocese.

...snip...

The Murphy Commission named five bishops in its report, criticising them for their handling of allegations of abuse against clergy.

Bishops Walsh and Field were the third and fourth to offer their resignations.

Bishop of Limerick Donal Murray resigned in December after the report branded as "inexcusable" his failure to deal effectively with a priest suspected of being a paedophile.

It found that during Dr Murray's time as an auxiliary bishop in Dublin from 1982 to 1996, he was dismissive of complaints about a priest who went on to abuse again.

...snip...

So business as usual.

He seems determine to prove me right when I call it an evil cult.

If only these bishops would ordain a woman to the priesthood. They'd not only be out of a job in 2 seconds flat, they'd be excommunicated.

Quicker than quick, if they were lesbian priests....

I think it is safe to assume that most people who believe the catholic version of religion would state the following is true. ( please correct me if i am wrong.)

A police officer is not expected to have as high of a moral standard as a priest. ( higher than your average, but not so high as a priest. )

Now imagine a police officer going to his captain and saying " So i know i have mishandled cases, and actually i have lied for other cops when i found out they were breaking the law." , and his captain having the same reaction. Anyone with a normally functioning brain, would say this is insane.

But i can bet my bottom dollar that there are a good amount of people who are defending the pope on the same decision.

Another good example of how religion warps people's minds.

So business as usual.

Not really - The Church wants to keep control of these guys. The resign, fade into obsucrity....This way the Church controls their actions and keeps them close

It is pretty much SOP for potential sex offending clergy in the Catholic Church world wide.

I don't think obscurity is what bothers them... It's actually quite the oppisite :D

That the Church now makes an effort to keep an eye on these people?....then yes

Keep an eye on them for what? These bishops weren't the actual abusers (as far as I know). Their crime was enabling and extending that abuse through the agency of the church hierarchy and, frankly, in line with church policy.

So, no one needs to keep an eye on these characters. What's needed is constant vigilance with regard to who's in power presently, from Ratzinger on down.

And Church policy changed

And do you think this is the only example of this type of control?

You could offer up some evidence for your theory about why these perverters of justice are kept on in their cushy positions.
