No, not Xenophobic, just cannot understand how the most powerful nation on earth can treat its poorest like that. Oh watch the documentary, these were not the people you describe, but recently white, middle class professionals or skilled working class.

Thankfully with a nationally funded health care system, it is not happening here, if it was, I would be sickened.

The only reason it's like this right now is because the Republican party has gone full retard in trying to fight out a last stand by not giving in on anything they associate with Liberal ideas. They view the world in stark "makers" and "takers" duality. They honestly believe that most of society are parasites and that we'd be better off with them just dead. You did not specify white middle class professionals to shame, you chose to label everyone in the country.

I, (like many people) am appalled at the way that human society around the world treats the people at the bottom as worth less, but I am not ashamed of myself for actively working to help, nor am I looking to scold every single resident of an entire nation as you have done.

Just noticed this thread, I did watch the documentary and I was honestly sickened by some of what I saw.

First bit was the total lack of care for fellow humans. Every person from the USA should be ashamed when you have charities that originally started to provide simple healthcare to Amazonian Indians and has found that it has to run what are effectively extra free hospitals and GP consulting in public halls because people, through no fault of there own, cannot afford or are turned down for insurance. The people queuing there all night. Sickening.

Ain't it grand though. I've a good friend who is literally dying of intestinal cancer. It may or may not be treatable. It was before, may not be soon. It probably won't matter. She will most likely never be treated. She's been turned down for medicaid three times. Not a question of qualifying. It is a question of not having babies. As she's married, having babies probably wouldn't help her anyway. You gotta be a lone parent with no father. Fathers can stuff it too. You poor, an adult, no children. Morgue is that way.

This is horrifying. For once I'm speechless.

The state I'm in is unusually bad toward those who need help. Welfare money is gone and foodstamps is drying up. The mentally ill are hit especially hard with the loss of Arizona's version of Medicaid which is called AHCCSS. (as I said before, people who are married and without children are cut off if not grandfathered in.) Should the mentally ill or any one else for that matter be in hospital FOR ANY REASON and loose medical, and fall in the above catagory of cut off folks, they aren't getting it back. Doesn't matter how sick they are. The jails and especially the morgues are filling fast.

Phoenix's sheriff "Joe" is getting all kinds of raves for shoving people out into 125 degree heat to roast in tents in summer, freeze in 25 degrees in summer.

He is rounding up and jailing Mexicans at random, and if you don't have your papers, green card or ID, your presumed illeagal and jailed if your lucky, deported if your not. If your a child walking to school tuff luck Pig Tails, the scum in Mexico's jails are gonna love you.

I take it then that the Lebanese capital is still synonymous in the mind of many people with a war-ravaged (almost post-apocalyptic) city.

One would think though, we should be using using Baghdad or to be completely up-to-date, Homs, for comparison now given that the civil war in Lebanon ended some time ago, and Beirut is seen as a lively must-see tourist destination once more.
