It looks like Utah is finally starting to crack down.

Its prophet is on the run, accused of uniting teenage girls with older, already-married men.
Its members are being evicted for tax evasion here and in adjoining Colorado City, Ariz., and police officers in both towns are being forced to choose between their jobs and plural marriage.
.
.
.
As the law closes in — the group's fugitive prophet, Warren Steed Jeffs, was charged last week with rape for allegedly forcing a teenage girl to marry an older man — members are leaving these twin towns and building compounds in West Texas, southwestern Colorado and South Dakota's Black Hills.
.
.
.
Chatwin, who refused to relinquish his wife, said he knows of men whose wives and children were reassigned to more-favored members. Women have said in court documents that when still teenagers, they were given as brides to much older men who were already married, and young men — the so-called Lost Boys — have stated in court documents that they were forced out of the community so as not to provide romantic distractions for girls their own age.

I see nothing wrong with polygamy so long as everyone enters into it with open eyes, adult knowledge and willing intent. The Middle East is full of polygamy. I'd like to see it extended to mixed sex ratio groups though.* Why can't four people love each other enough to live together?
Just like monogamy really, with more money for divorce lawyers.

If it's and excuse for child sex, that's something else.

* Which would require a new name, I know. Neither polygamy nor polyandry.

Would it be ok for a woman to have many men at once?, or would you find that intolerable?.

Whatever relationship structure consenting adults want to enter into is their right and no one else's business. Either anybody can get married or nobody can. If gay people and multiple people can't get married then the gov't probably shouldn't sanction our relationships.

Multiple people is an entirely different issue legally from same-sex marriage. There is no [good] reason that the benefits one man and one woman share by being married should not also be shared by two men or two women. But extending said benefits to any number of people?

Certainly, any number of people should be allowed to form whatever kind of relationship they want. Whether the government should sanction that, with all the benefits sanctioning provides, is an entirely different matter.

I don't care what the mix is so long as everyone is consensual and everyone is aware of everyone else. No fraud.

That being said these pricks who prey on young girls and force the young men out of the community should be shot.

Yes,it would be OK. I thought I said that. I don't see it in terms of one A having many B , but of a group of two or more of any AA / BB / AB combination sharing a group commitment. Marriage used to be one male one female. It is becoming acceptable to substitute two males or two females. So now we are hung up on numbers? In terms of looking after kids alone, I can see clear economic advantages in a multi-adult partnership.

Now there's someplace I want to emulate.
Like all cultures, there are good and bad aspects. Having spent a lot of time there , I never saw the legality of polygamy as something I found hard to take. Not to my personal taste, but it seems to work as a social factor. I just find it a bit odd that we can get over the emotional hump of adapting to two men marrying, then balk at (say) two men and one woman.

The appropriate word is polyamory. Do a google search for more info.
Ah. Thank you. I didn't know that one.
