Actually, I tend to agree about impeachment. As far as the bj...well, you'll first have to convince me it would really work. And take me to dinner first. ;)
Aw, come on Mark! Take one for the team! Freedom isn't free, ya know. It demands sacrifices now and then. Some people die for freedom. Others give BJ's. It all balances out. :D

You live under a rock or what?
You are both right. And wrong. We have record deficits in terms of absolute dollar numbers. But not in terms of a percentage of the GDP.

I'll let you two duke it out as to which of those numbers matters more. Not my fight. :)

They both matter. But the GDP argument is silly at best...Republicans never even mentioned it as a defence until Bush Sr. got in office. But it's silly because foreign borrowing is skyrocketing as a result; there is no wiggling out of that one. Although they will try.

I'm considering it...but do I love my country that much?

;)

Weighing in late on this - just got back in town in the wee hours of this morning after a week away from a keyboard of any kind - so everyone please forgive if this point has already been made:

I believe the Democrats should do everything in their power to try to impeach Bush. Everyone remembers how popular the Republican congress became when they impeached Clinton.

Seriously, you can hate Bush and his policies to death, but there are no sensible grounds for trying to impeach him. And when you see a poll that raises the question, you can rest assured that it's an attempt by the Unhinged Left to push this non-issue to the fore, make it seem like the country is demanding Bush be impeached. Guy in charge of polling for the Washington Post had an online chat several months ago, and quoted three or four people who'd written in to the chat asking why they never conduct a poll asking people's opinions on the issue. He replied, rather heatedly, that it was because when he gets a hundred identical emails a day demanding he do a poll on the issue, it's obvious that people are just clicking on some UL URL.

You have convinced me that you really are trolling.
Pot, kettle.

How is asking a question "wrong"?

They both matter.
Actually, absolute dollar amounts are meaningless. Now, if you had used inflation adjusted dollars instead of GDP, that still wouldn't be a good measure, but at least it wouldn't be completely silly.

But the GDP argument is silly at best...Republicans never even mentioned it as a defence until Bush Sr. got in office.
How is it silly? Because (acording to you), it's been mentioned for less than twenty years?

But it's silly because foreign borrowing is skyrocketing as a result; there is no wiggling out of that one.
That statement is neither well formed nor shown to be relevant. If you think that foreign borrowing is what's truly important, why not measure foreign borrowing as a percentage of GDP? Nothing you've said has given any reason why GDP is, if not perfect, at least better than absolute dollar amounts.

You know what, Art? I really do hope I am wrong, and everything you just said is true. I really do. Let's see if you are still saying it when the Democrats are back in the White House, as they eventually will be at some point. If you are still saying it then, I will take you seriously.
