Police killing.

Guns are the problem.

Racism and mental health are excuses sometimes used in these stories, but people wouldn't be killed because of it without the guns.

People want to own and carry guns, therefore cops must carry guns. Cops are afraid of the very people they are supposed to be serving and protecting. Whether or not their fears are valid is another story.

In my country any person may be armed, which puts cops on the defensive in many circumstances where they shouldn't be, like this one.

A guy reaches for a cop's gun (maybe) and ends up dead. If there was no gun he'd be alive. If the cops didn't fear guns they wouldn't wear them, and they wouldn't have acted the way they did either, as if everyone is a deadly threat.

And to add to the issue, mentally ill people exist. Many are living on the streets. It's a recipe for disaster, which is exactly what we have.

All these threads - Was he racist? Was she black? Member of KKK? - all a waste of time. Answering those questions will solve nothing.

Ya I know, you can't get rid of all the guns, at least that's what people say. The problem is that there is no other solution. Anything else is a waste of time and effort.

Been saying this for a long time, nice to see others cotton on to the real reason there are so many police shootings in the US. Add this to the "Black People are scary and if freed will kill you" lies told by pro-Slavery idiots back in the 1800's and still deep in the psyche of white Americans, and you have the modern-day results.

Also, were these two deputies part of the homeless outreach whatever thing? If so, why are they in full BDU? They look like ******* Navy Seals.

Yeah I find it crazy. When I hear of a department called the Homeless Outreach Team it sounds like a benign group of social (civic) workers employed to be empathetic to the homeless and assisting them. What doesn't come to mind is fully armed officers essentially prowling around accosting mentally ill street sleepers.

I suppose it's one way of bringing the homeless stats down though.

In my opinion, police shouldn't even be responding to this. This situation should never have arisen. This guy obviously wasn't operating at full mental capacity.

I make this a question because I simply don't know, does the USA not have Social Services equivalent that can deal with this type of situation? If they do, are they not funded well? Are police routinely used for this type of encounter?
