NEW YORK (AP) – The wife of the imam planning an Islamic community center by Ground Zero said she and her husband have received death threats.

Daisy Khan said Sunday that her life and that of her husband, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf were "under threat."

If she and her husband are really moderates, then they should get on national tv and denounce Hamas as a terrorist organization. BTW, what is a moderate imam? I know what Reform Judaism is and I have friends who are non-practicing Catholics. But moderate Muslim? That’s a new one.

Terrorism is a perfect excuse for bigoted behaviour, same thing happened with the Irish. I'm sure some people genuinely (and ignorantly) believe all muslims are potential terrorists, but others just like to demonize and single out to make themselves feel better about their own shortcomings.

I don't know if I agree or not. I think both sides are guilty.

In a way Al Qaida has won, yes. They have succeeded to alienate the Muslims from the Western world, which in turn can lead to new radicalism.

On the other hand, it is the Western fear mongers (FOX, Tea Party, Wilders etc.) who instill fear and want to drive a wedge between the Muslims and the West.

After 9/11 a lot of Americans asked "why do they hate us?" It won't be long (if not already) before Muslims start to wonder this.

This is how I see it, and why I said what I said, although I agree with everything you said, there's more, IMHO.

When 9.11 happened I was so proud to be an American. For about two months or so we made a resolution that we were not going to be afraid. We had commericals on the television of various people of various races and religions screaming "I am an American" (which still brings tears to my eyes, I have to admit), we were told to go about our business, unafraid.

Then something happened. The philosophy changed to "Be afraid - be very afraid". We were given a tip phone number to call if we suspected someone, people were illegally wiretapped then, suddenly a law passed to make it legal. Our philosophy changed from tolerance to suspicion.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want my statement to be a "who's to blame" political thing. Truth is, we are all to blame. We, the Americans, have shredded a bit of our own Constitution because of fear. And it seems to me that that was Al Quiada's goal: instill fear into Americans and they will show their true colors.

Now we have.

Americans are receiving death threats for putting up a building that has a place of worship in it near a place where a bunch of crazy people killed many people. And simply because those Americans share the same religion as those crazy people, the builders are getting death threats from other Americans, despite our claims of us saying we believe in Freedom of Religion.

Sounds like Al Quiada won to me.
