Please help! I'm static-man

When the weather turns dry I brush on the shoe soles and around the edges a dilute solution of laundry anti-stat. Works great but have to apply it every month or so.

As for static, I can relate. Drove me nuts as a kid where the chairs had plastic seats. I had a key in my hand perpetually.

Discharge flaps that drag on the ground provide some but only small relief. Car tires already have material added to provide a small conductance to the frame and aside from that, when one gets out of a car the charge is distributed between the car, the person, and "Earth." By far the largest voltage will wind up on the person so whether the car discharges or not will make little difference and no difference if the shock discharge isn't to the car.

humidity at home is fine - and i can't really carry a humidifier around in public. .....

well that's a thought- brushing stuff on the soles- i wonder if static cling spray would work- maybe i'll have to carry a can!

If all else fails, pound a metal rod deep into the ground and tether yourself to it with a few thousand metres of aircraft cable (more if travelling out of town).

Or put an iron ring around one ankle and drag about 20lbs of chain behind you. Like the old ball-and-chain prison thing, only without the ball. That's what all the road scrapers do.

:) of course.

Move to "sunny" England...

One reason that the textile milling industry started in the pennines,

Visit Macclesfield, and you will have no problems with static.
