Plastic Rice

Apparently the Nigerian government just went ahead and did some actual science and found out that the stuff wasn't plastic, just rice:

I guess technically it's "science", they made risotto and nobody complained. Then again, they took that poll right before anyone had actually been served. In truth they never really figured it out as they all got sick from some joker sending them plastic milk¹.



¹ Yes we know it's "technically" not a plastic in that form.

That material is starch, from various sources such as wheat or corn. Since starch is also what rice consists mostly of, imitation rice made of those materials would probably just be called "imitation rice."

(I would prefer real rice if there were any choice, but I have eaten a number of the starch-based packing peanuts without ill effect.)

I wish someone would invent plastic rice you could chew and eat and had 0 calories. Make that, or a fake bread, or some damned carb substitute.
