Pink Slime

It's pretty ludicrous to be telling someone who complained about the texture of burger a decade before ever hearing about Pink Slime, who did a blinded test themselves at a skeptics' meetup, and who can now find lots of burger without the texture problem, that I didn't really notice added ground up tendons in my burger changed the texture.
Another joke. It's ludicrous for you to think I should care about your anecdotes and what you believe. You believe that they faked the studies, you believe that that lady working for them was a bribe to not change the labelling (which is really stupid because she ain't in charge of everyone who matters saying beef is beef today! Wow that invalidates your point completely) and etc, etc, etc, you believe it. I'm telling you what you can and cannot prove, and what is better evidence than you in every way. Thanks for participating in show and tell.

As for 4 tests, yadda yadda: any number of things from different amounts of LFTB in the burger to how the questions were asked could affect said tests. You seem to dismiss the company's own report that adding too much LFTB to hamburger did bother people.
Adding too much salt spoils the burger too what the hell? lol, they say that it makes normal meat butter. Wait did you forget those 4 labs aren't the only sources out there for people preferring the burger?

Why is that if it doesn't change the burger?
Because it's leaner? Do you realize how lean this product is? Wow, just, what a joke. This was all over let's not rehash it. You already said all the same crap a few pages ago and wouldn't let go of your fantasy then so

Yep, tendons are pretty much lean. Any fat mixed in with the connective tissue is melted and centrifuged out.

BTW, did you know they added melamine to milk in China to up the protein %?

Yes, China is related to this thread...

Hey did you know there is also guts in lftb? Just as much evidence

Back to repeating the misunderstanding of the study the author says your interpretation of is wrong. Why do you think he got his own study wrong?

I can't wait until BPI wins it's lawsuit. Jamie Oliver pouring household amonia on chunks of raw cow was a retarded stunt. The network jumped on a bandwagon with such fervor they lost their soul and will now have to pay to buy it back

Better nutrition. Saves 1.5mil cows from death and saves the environment. Reduces the chance of foodbourne illness. Tastes fine. Saves money. A genius invention by a brilliant, passionate entrepreneur. Touted by foodbourne illness experts who have children that died from it as the cream of the crop in creating safe, high-quality food... great stuff!

Oh **** they are out of IOWA? A bunch of Republicans appeared with the owners in order to try and save it? TORCH IT TO THE GROUND

Firstly if everybody in the world was forbidden to eat meat, you would not save 1.5 million cow. They would be slaughtered because, nobody would pay for it. And then the specie would probably disappear except maybe as milk generator.

Secondely the biggest food poisonning I can remember of in the last years, so big they made national news , were about *vegetables*, from salads to spinach. Sure one a few years ago was from animals feces runoff, but the others were due to bad preparation/contamination during preparation of vegetables eaten raw. I can't even remember when I heard of a meat food poisonning in Germany or France, they should be relatively rare as meat is usually over cooked out of fear of germs.

I contend that switching to vegetarian for everybody would rise the rate of food born illness simply due to the more difficult preparation, and the fact that many vegetables are actually eaten raw rather than cooked.

Well to be fair we simply breed 1.5 mil less cows every year because we simply don't have a market for them with lftb on the market. We will have to grow another 1.5 million cows. Oh **** we can't bc of market forces. Ooops beef prices went up 3%.

Yes, Aepervius, we should ban growing vegetables and selling them to people. I'M NOT LYING WHEN I TELL YOU that my grandma tells me that tomatoes used to taste better ;) I wonder what kind of tomato dog food they inject into normal tomatoes these days. I'm also not lying when I tell you that I believe that 100 year-old woman's taste sensors as much as I trust SG's probably more up-to-date ones. Especially when she always thinks we just served her tea when it is coffee.

Switching to vegetarian would also put our infants and elderly at risk.

I mean I hope I hope don't offend anyone at laughing at this months-long joke, I suspect it's expected.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, even I am having difficult detecting my own sarcasm this thread is a lifer.

A digression, but modern store bought tomatoes are grown to look nice as their primary feature, and good taste as a secondary feature. This is no secret.

You wouldn't believe the taste of the ugly tomatoes I buy at the market in Turkey. Mmm, yum!

A bit late but...

I believe you, my parents grow many vegetables and fruits themselves, tomatoe, potatoe (various sort), various salades, cherry, strawberries etc... etc... They even used to do alcohol (from apple - calvados and cider) but they are a bit too old for that now, too much work for alcohol.

The taste between the tomatoe from the garden and the stuff i supermarket was always incredible. Second was the difference strawberries market/garden.

I posted this in the pink slime thread over in SMM&T but this thread seems more active.

Jamie Oliver is being sued over his "pink slime" statements.

A worker laid off by a US beef processing company has sued celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, a food blogger and ABC News, saying their use of the term "pink slime" helped him lose his job.

Bruce Smith, 58, was one of about 750 people fired by Beef Products Inc, maker of lean, finely textured beef.

Mr Smith, formerly senior counsel and director of Environmental, Health and Safety at Beef Products Inc, filed his lawsuit in Dakota County District Court, Nebraska.

The filing names Jamie Oliver, food blogger Bettina Siegel, ABC News, its journalists Diane Sawyer and Jim Avila and 10 other unnamed defendants.

While garden/store difference is obvious, don't forget one is much much fresher. Your garden seeds might be the same or similar to the seeds used in industrial farming.

BTW, there's no 'e' on the end of tomato, unless there's some British spelling I'm not aware of.

It's doubtful the suit will be successful. It's free speech circumstances, not libel or slander circumstances.

I can't imagine it, either. Free people reserve the right to describe things grossly, though individual claims may be something else, though even there there was a need for anti-SLAPP laws.

Anyone grossed out by the idea of pink slime should consider what humans ate in previous centuries. When the pink slime story hit, the Food Network was running a really cool show about food history called The Supersizers. Each episode took on a historical period - Roman occupation of Britain, Regency, Edwardian, Medieval, WWII austerity, 1950s, etc. The Supersizers (Sue & Giles) would spend a week living in a period house, wearing period clothing, engaging in some period recreation & fitness, and eating nothing but period diet. The preparation of the foods was shown in detail. I think the one that grossed me out the most was the lambs' head.

The suit may not succeed monetarily, but it has already succeeded in getting the facts about Jamie Oliver's wonton douchebaggery back in the press.

Just think, if only the industry had been honest and disclosed they were adding more tendons and connective tissue instead of muscle meat to burger to make it low fat, they wouldn't be in trouble with consumers now.

No, I get the last word!

Just think, if you could just stop making stuff up we could have an intelligent conversation!

What did I make up? Your denial that pink slime is made mostly of tendons and connective tissue has been overwhelmed by the evidence.

The tendons are removed before it even gets to BPI. The vast majority of experts in academia who have been quoted say that you are wrong, it is 100% beef. You tried to use a study about connective tissue until I posted a statement from the author stating your conclusions were wrong, and you still kept using it.

I'm definitely done with you on this subject forever.
