Unfortunately the spammers are often not nice enough to use their own equipment, ISP or email provider. Alot of spam comes from farms of machines that have been compromised and are acting as workers in a spam farm unbeknown to the owner of the machine. If the email address to reply to is real it was probably ripped out of the address book of the owner of the machine. Using valid and varied email addresses is an attempt to bypass spam filters. So what would be likely to happen is you would send your attack to some innocent bystander who happened to have the bad luck of having his email address in the contacts list of somebody who had their machine compromised.

But the embedded fake addresses to steal the user's information probably belongs to the phishers. But I agree that a novice would probably still get into trouble trying to send them a virus, and that the con artists would manage to evade any problems.
