People who don't eat fish

No taste.

I've heard that before because my entire family eats fish, loves the ocean (I love the ocean too) and especially seafood.

In practice, I'm almost considered to be in a lower social class for having "no taste". I've considered saying I'm allergic, but that would be lying.

You're could be a Fish-Friendly Shark!
Remember their motto: "Fish Are Friends, Not Food!"

Cute :).

An 'I-can't-eat-that-or-I'll-barf"atarian?

ps. I SO relate.

Yes, that's what happens sometimes. I'll literally regurgitate seafood, especially oysters and other slimy animals. It's quite embarrassing. For a long time I didn't realize there were others who didn't like fish either.

Yeah, it sounds really weird and religious. To clarify, would you be embarrassed to say you are non-piscatarian, or to have to ask what it means as a fish-server?

I meant to imply that if I told the fish-server I was a non-piscatarian and they replied "what does that mean?", I would be embarrassed to concede that "it's a clever and official-sounding term for the fact that I don't like to eat fish".

"I don't get on well with fish", said with a sad face and a pat of the belly would probably do just as well, and not embarrass anybody.

Yeah, that would work. Or I could follow luchog's advice and say, "I'm sorry, but I have no taste. Are there cheeseburgers in your kids menu?"

For the most part I don't eat anything that came from the water. I can do tuna (yes, from the tin) but it's weird - I can be fine with it for a year or so, and then it induces throwing up in my mouth. Either fish is extremely boring, or it is just revolting. Shellfish is the worst. Super fresh sashimi is okay once a year or so. I can handle calimari, and like conch a lot, so I'm sure there's some rare stuff out there that I would like. But for the most part the whole flavor profile is just revolting. And no, the throw up in my mouth was not my attempt to repeat a 'cute' meme, I've actually done it after taking a bite of fish. I had a really great whole baked fish at a thai restaurant once, but it was so stuffed with various veges and coated with sauces that the fish was more a neutral base for the dish than an actual flavor component.

My wife refuses to eat fish at any establishment that is more than 50 miles from the ocean. She was spoiled by living in coastal towns, and can't abide fish that isn't fresh.

Maybe in the distant past this would be a valid reason to avoid fish - not being fresh because of the distance. Today, fresh fish arrives at places far from the coast every day. Sushi restaurants where I live wouldn't exist if this weren't possible.

I forgot to answer the OP. The word you are looking for is "intelligent".

I catch my own so I know they are fresh. Crappie, walleye, channel catfish, bluegill and bass. Preferred in that order.
