Lesbians are not "sodomites" by any definition of the word. Men who have anal sex with their wives ARE sodomites, by definition. So, in fact, California did nothing to criminalize sodomite marriages.

Except that argument would still be unconstitutional, since it makes marriage both a religious AND state institution. Straight atheist couples (like me and my husband) have no recourse to a civil union OR a marriage in this scenario.

Yes. That was the point I was making.

His choices seem to be:

1) Argue that his prophet was a pervert;
2) Suggest that 9 year old are fair game (in which case he supports what we would consider to be a perversion);
3) Admit that what we consider to be perversions is largely influenced by the cultural context.

It depends on your dictionary, of course. By one definition, any "unusual" intercourse is sodomy. By another, it is only when a man engages in anal intercourse with a man or a woman. Then, too, we must examine the definition of "intercourse" and the word "coitus". The definitions become more and more heterocentric and phallo-centric the deeper we go.

That's exactly the line I was going to take when i saw him state that "sex with a child" is perversion. I wander if he has the courage to come back onto this thread and state what he thinks of his prophet.
