Peak Corbyn!

Yes that is what I'm saying. Corbyn's old style socialism is dead and buried.

Strange then that Labour currently have a 1 point lead in the polls.

Turns out old style socialism is slightly more attractive than being governed by a cabal of right wing disaster capitalists......

I might be able to manufacture some outrage if he'd accumulated a fortune from highly paid supplementary jobs while still claiming salary for a full time position as an MP, using his influence in Parliament to aid future employers, or if he's been funding house purchases by exaggerating his expenses. However as it includes property in a high cost area (which is his constituency) and pension I don't think his net worth is actually particularly high for a person of his generation who has been working for 46 years, owns their own home in London and doesn't appear to have any expensive hobbies. The massive increase in house prices in the UK since the late seventies means that a lot of people in Corbyn's age group have ended up with significant property values just from buying a family house. I don't live in London but around me there are plenty of people his age who've had shorter and less notable careers who I'm sure would be worth around the same on paper, thanks in a large part to property price inflation and generous final salary pensions. There's a pretty sharp drop off amount younger people of course.

For context the average flat in London sold for over half a million last year, and the estimated net worth of some other prominent politicians include Theresa May (£3m), Nigel Farrage (£3m), George Osborne (£4.5m) and Jacob Rees-Mogg (£150m).

Polls etc. show that isn't the case.

Christ, I'd poll well against the current crop of Tories.

Yet in my opinion he's still unelectable. When the decisions are made in the polling booth, he will be rejected.

As opposed to Disaster Socialists like McDonnell?

At this point in a government's term a one point lead for the opposition is terrible. Satan himself would poll better than that. From a decent opposition you'd expect at least a 15 point lead, especially when you consider the BREXIT factor.

How do you define "this point in a government's term"?
For example, at this point in Maggie's run the Tories led by 2 or 3%, Feb 1987.
Similarly Labour were 3 or 4% up, Feb 2005.

I don't deny that Labour ought to be doing better considering the state of their opposition.

Well prior to the last election the polls were giving the Tories a 20 point lead, so it's entirely possible Labour has a 15% lead now...
