Should the JREF reopen Pavel's application file?

No, the file should not be reopened.

It is really quite simple. From the main thread relating to Pavel's claim, he clearly stated that he emailed JREF and asked for his file to be closed. JREF complied with this request. If Pavel now regrets what he did, well, life is full of sadness,

So on this basis, I cannot see how his "claim" can be reopened. AFAIK, he can still apply in a years time, so if he still has the hots for $1 Million, good for him! In the mean time, he can fine tune his talent, explain to everyone exactly what he is capable of, and build a protocol which can precisely describe and demonstrate his non scientifically explainable skill.

Discussed, but with no satisfactory explanation as to why the JREF doesn't specify what the odds standard is.

Discussed, but with no satisfactory explanation as to why the JREF should state the odds in advance and risk $1M without knowing anything about the claim or the protocol.

I missed where he asked for it to be closed. If he asked, then had a fit when they actually did, then he's got nothing to complain about.

There's only one thing to say to folks like that: Don't let the door hit ya on the way out.

Living the "I'm special" fantasy is an illness, and the longer one can prolong the attention achieved by claiming nonsensical powers, the deeper he slips into the unreal universe of his own delusions. Years of enabling this harmful behavior is not a healthy pursuit, for it does neither party to the farce any good.

See post # 228:

Dear Alison,

From my side I have done more than enough to prove my willingness to be tested. And I think it is a normal wish to be tested fairly. I do not agree with the protocol that from the beginning guarantees my failure. I have nothing more to say but to close my file as I see no more point in negotiations with JREF.

Sincerely yours,

Pavel

I vote no. I am not particular impressed by JREF's behaviour either -- on the other hand, if someone claims consistent results, then designing a test should be relatively easy. Pavel's negotiations have been anything but.

I voted yes.

I confess to not being particularly pleased with the outcome in this event, but at the same time I think it'd be polite to let Startz's work come to fruition. I see a lot of his influence in the revised protocol statements, most of which I agree with. I have the suspicion that our disagreements are based more in my ignorance rather than incorrect action on his part.

After reading the threads, I vote no.
