:boggled: Really? I think most people agree that Ringo was a reliable, but not "great," drummer.

Anyway, I am annoyed when I see people disparaging the Beatles. I really like the Beatles, but I am choosy: I prefer their post-1965 output and will rarely listen to the earlier stuff.

So I can understand why some people don't *like* the Beatles and I don't think anyone has the obligation to do so. But to dismiss them out of hand ("they suck!!!1!!") is ridiculous. People who know music and music history cannot deny their influence.

I don't like Bob Dylan particularly, but I won't deny that he is a great songwriter and a HUGE influence on popular music. [Edited to add: I missed JohnG's similar post where he said basically the same thing about Dylan - good to know I'm not alone with that opinion.]

On another note: I'm really surprised that a thread with such a bizarre start has made it to 4 pages.:D

Ringo was a great drummer, his lack of technical ability is what makes him good, same goes for lennons ropey guitar playing, in fact it's because McCartney plays well that he's rubbish.
The Beatles aren't in the same league as Dylan, not by a long shot.

I think we are done with that. Paul McCartney is not Crowley,end of story. I would rather discuss Dylan and the Beatles than talk about a crazy heroin addict.

I know he lived in a house near me Grannies house in Scotland. The same house Jimmy Page bought, now there's an over rated band, Led Zepplin. They are terrible. So bad they make the Beatles look good. I also know he appeals to teenage stoners with his ' do what thy wilt will be the whole of the law' and i've read what Robert Anton Wilson says about him in some of his books.
Are all Beatles fan as uptight as you when someone is poking fun at your hero's? My mate is a big Beatles fan and he's convinced that Yoko is an MK Ultra programmed stooge sent to destroy Lennon and when you consider how he let her sing he might be on to something. Have you seen the gig where lennon and yoko do a number with Zappa, the whole lot of them are laughing at them, same goes with the footage of lennon playing with Chuck Berry. Seems lennon was under her spell and mistook art as wailing, shame cause the world could have done with more nonsense like Imagine.

Just out of curiosity, are Ringo and Lennon special cases, or do you think it's generally true that only musicians who lack technical proficiency on their instruments can be great, while those who learn to play too well become rubbish?

Yes,Gimme Dat Harp Boy was on that album. I'm devastated. One of my musical heroes was part of the NWO.

okay, we have all proved that we are old farts.
we grew up in times of great music.
but....
can't we get back to crowley?
he was most surely an interesting fellow.
whether or not you buy into his magick, his influence is undeniable.
l.ron hubbard was one of his disciples. hubbard's influence is weird.
jack parsons was another disciple. he founded the jet propulsion laboratories in pasadena and was one of the people who put man on the moon.

crowley definitely was a shaper.
