There were in position in the San Francisco Bay Coastal Defences as well, same design.
The one currently in San Francisco above Baker Beach is the only one that still works, though. The National Park Sevice ( the SF coastal defence sites are part of the Golden Gate Recreation Area) operates it twice a week.

There's actually a real question there -- how do they get it to go back down? That's done by recoil in an active weapon. Otherwise they're counterweighted to stay up. Perhaps they've fiddled the counterweight to make the operating force very light?
Hope they've got some really good locks on it when they aren't operating it!
