Palin Goes Rogue on Vegans

She also doesn't advocate abstinence only education.

(She once answered "yes" to a poll question about it, but it was a push-poll situation with an excluded middle fallacy. The question, quoting from memory, was "Do you support abstinence only sex education, or would you prefer explicit sexual images and distribution of free condoms?" That isn't the exact wording of the question, but the actual question was no less absurd, and did mention both explicity sexual images and free condoms. A more savvy politician would simply not have answered the question, or at least refused to check a box, but "savvy" isn't one of the words often used to describe the former governor.)

When in a position to influence public policy, she advocated comprehensive sex education in schools, and her famous daughter received such instruction.

Here was the question:
3. Will you support funding for abstinence-until-marriage education instead of for explicit sex-education programs, school-based clinics, and the distribution of contraceptives in schools?
And here was Palin's answer:

SP: Yes, the explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support.

And note that it wasn't a yes/no answer. If she meant that she supported explicit sex education but not the distribution of contraceptives, she could well have said so. I agree it was a slanted question (that's the Eagle Forum for you). But she is still definitely on record as being opposed to explicit sex-ed.

I can explain that! :) I consider myself a Catholic atheist--sort of the way there are ethnic Jews who are not of the Jewish faith.

Hey!! Leave me the hell out of this argument. TYVM

Someone made the joke that in Ireland if you say you're an atheist, you'll be asked, "Yeah, but are you a Catholic atheist or a Protestant atheist?"--and that makes perfect sense to me.

I've heard that before, good joke and very telling of the issues that country has to face.

The one subject American public school children are not deficient in is their knowledge of carnal knowledge. Had Palin advocated dispenisng with teaching classes in reading, writing or arthithmatic, she would probably get less static from libs.

The rational explanation for what Obama said was that he simply mispoke.
Correct, and it is a very reasonable mistake to make if one is trying to say it accurately, e.g., trying to say, "I made 57 visits to states," or "I made 57 state visits," and it instead comes out, "I visited 57 states."

Anyway, it's hardly the stuff to put him on par with Palin, as Cicero loves to attempt.

Let's just say that if I were talking about ramming some disgusting crap down YOUR throat against your will just because I found you "smug", you wouldn't take it as a joke.

In fact, there are quite a few things that we could joke about, like forcibly aborting fetuses from anti-choicers, torturing the kids of the pro-torture crowd, executing the pro-death penalty people's families, and kidnapping the chickenhawks and dropping them in Iraq.

Haha. It's just jokes, right?

Fun times.

Uh, if you can't tell the difference between taste in joking about forcible abortion and force-feeding burgers, you need to do a reality check. Now.

I'm a vegetarian. It wasn't the best joke, but it shouldn't be taken so seriously.

Candidate Obama made reasonable mistakes. POTUS Obama makes reasonable mistakes. Candidate Palin made unreasonable mistakes. Private citizen Palin makes unreasonable mistakes. Got it.

But how do you explain how the Palin obsessing strunzos still mightily cling to their script that she believes dinosaurs walked the earth 4000 years ago and that she burned or banned books when more than a year has past since this was debunked?

It might be helpful for you to evaluate the kinds of mistakes being made. I would categorize Obama's mistakes as strategic or tactical mistakes concerning the achievement of goals. Palin's mistakes have largely centered on revealing information about herself.

First, the charge was that she attempted to get books banned. Second, may the class see the supposed debunking of this allegation?

Actually, it was Governor Palin who made the most unreasonable mistake by choosing to abdicate and become private citizen Palin. That, in and of itself, will probably preclude her from ever holding public office again. Maybe that's not what she wants, but she certainly wants respect. That decision will guarantee that she will never win the respect of many in her own party.

I thought that was a bonehead move when it happened, but considering what she did afterward, resigning might have actually been the smart play. Maybe.

After a day of thinking about this. As silly as her comment is, human beings do seem to be made (by evolution) to consume and digest animal flesh. We are not herbavores.

So while it is laughable that she said "then why did God make animals out of meat". She has a point, albiet as seen from another angle, that we humans seem to be animal eating animals.

So she is saying something logical but in a very strange and silly way probably designed that way to be cute and funny.

On the other hand, maybe she ment it exactly as it sounds and she is really that ditzy.

Did you pick that up while "hanging out in scientific circles?" That sounds more like something you would get by listening to a Gibbs press conference.

Who the Hell do you think made that idiotic charge? All it takes to satisfy your "scientific mind" is for a local Wasilla blogger to post any outrageous claim and your confirmation bias takes over. Is your choice of board name intentionally ironic?

I'll respond when you learn to attack the argument and not the arguer.

I think she just used an old joke that some people find funny, others do not, but that no one should really get upset over.

I've had an eye infection latley and had to take one of my contact lenses out. thus the screen is a little blury and I have to look twice to be sure I am reading it correctly. For a second I thought the last work in the title of this thread was "vagina."

Ooops.

Is there a term for that, like a Freudian Slip of the mind? :)
