Palin Goes Rogue on Feminism

Did I say anything about a majority? No, I believe I did not. But, say, 40 million people is still a big chunk. There are lots of big chunks of the world, because the world is very big. Not to mention that if you really want to take this approach, then it STILL doesn't rescue the fool's claim, because much (and perhaps even an absolute majority) of the world probably doesn't even have an opinion of Sarah Palin, and so wouldn't be laughing at her or her supporters.
nope...sorry. Every time she is mentioned its in the context of "what was america thinking?"

I find it amazing....absolutely amazing that seemingly literate educated people like yourself could look at a clown and see something else.....Big floppy pants, oversized shoes....red plastic nose. Its normally a dead giveaway.

I hope one day the GOP doesn't nominate a can of baked beans for VP. I'd hate to hear you having to argue the advantages of legumes over Liberals.

I suppose the thought never even entered your mind that she could be, in fact, NOT a clown?

No, the left has decided what she is. They decided it within an hour of the leak of her nomination. A terrible mother who put her unborn baby at risk by flying home to Alaska to have him. A woman who made rape victims pay for test kits. A woman who wasn't actually pregnant, but was covering for her daughter. A woman who was stupid and contemptible, and who's only claim to any position of power in the GOP was the fact that she chose to not abort her mentally handicapped child.

That was all decided and set in stone before she even made the speech at the GOP convention. Tolerance and giving people a chance? Not when they are right wingers. Destroy, destroy.. destroy!

Too bad she's still very popular and the massive /handwave the left is trying it's hardest to orchestrate is having little to no effect on that.

I did consider it at first but then she started talking and all doubt was eliminated. This candidate is an incompetent Joke....get the picture? This is obvious to all but the dumber end of the partisan hack team....

No, the left has decided what she is.
Nope...I said the world not "the left" This is not a party political thing. She would still be the same joke no matter which party she originated from.

Too bad she's still very popular and the massive /handwave the left is trying it's hardest to orchestrate is having little to no effect on that.
still very popular? wow.... whoda thunk it...
you really think this or is it just because she has (or had) official GOP dude stamped on her forehead that you and supposedly a lot of other people are not allowed to laugh at her?

Loves the gender equality, hates the people who fought for the gender equality.

That is hardly inconsistent. It is one thing to be for gender equality, something else entirely to think every fanatical feminist is to be praised just because she fights for gender equality.

I think that, when someone on the left says similarly reasonable things about the right (e.g., "I love the bill of rights, but I don't like second-amendment nuts who hoard guns"), this is called sophistication.

When someone on the right says so, it is called contradicting yourself.

Ah well.

And her supporters don't comprise a big chunk of the U.S. population. So we're talking about a minority of 5% of the world's population (i.e. substantially less than 50% of 5%).

The Fool said:
What I want to point out is that the Lady is a joke. The whole world is laughing...Not with you....at you.

When she runs for president of the World, that might be relevant.

Anyway, what "the world" (which seems to mean, not actually the world, but left-leaning dailies in Canberra or Berlin, as well as humanities faculty lounges) thinks is seen is rather irrelevant for the average American -- and for a good reason.

"The world" hated Reagan and loved Carter, but Reagan was a great president while Carter was an embarrassing failure. Obama, too, is (so far at least) discovering that being "loved by the world" is practically worthless in terms of achieving any of his policy goals, either domestic or international.

If Sarah Palin is ever president -- highly unlikely, for various reasons -- what "the world" thinks about her would be less than meaningless. What would matter would be her actual policies.

That was kind of the point I (and others) were making in response to Zig's comment:

but she is still very popular among a lot of people. Whatever your opinion of Palin or the people who like her, "the whole world" is rather obviously not laughing at her or her supporters, because a big chunk of the world is those supporters. Them's the facts, fool,

nope...sorry. Every time she is mentioned its in the context of "what was america thinking?"

And you are able to observe every time she is mentioned? I think not. Had you said, "every time I hear her mentioned", you might have a leg to stand on. But for some reason, you choose to pursue a maximalist position in regards to Palin which is both unsupported and unnecessary.

And it's counter-factual as well. The folks in Hong Kong who invited her to speak didn't do so in order to laugh at her.

I find it amazing....absolutely amazing that seemingly literate educated people like yourself could look at a clown and see something else

I have said nothing about my personal opinion of Palin. You do not know what my personal opinion of Palin is. And it is irrelevant for the argument I am putting forward. It is not a mark of intelligence to pretend that, because "psychics" are all obvious frauds, that nobody ever pays them for their services.

But I am not surprised that you can't figure any of this out.

I know....I think you have a problem with doing that because you may still have to give her your support. So what is your personal opinion of palin?

Here's some material for you to review.

Now that sort of nitpicking is usually a sign of desperation, doncha know....

Is Palin "very popular"?

Earlier this month, CNN/Opinion Research released a poll showing that only 28% of Americans now think Palin qualified for the presidency. 70% say she is unqualified. Even among Republicans, only 54% think she is qualified, 44% say No.

The published poll does not break these answers down by sex, but I asked my friends at the Political Unit for the cross-tabs, and here’s what they show:

While 33% of men deem Palin qualified, only 24% of women do. 66% of men deem her unqualified – and 74% of women.

Now look just at Republicans: Republican men deem Palin “qualified” by a margin of 60-38. But Republican women? Not even half think she is qualified: only 49%. 50% of Republican women say Palin is unqualified for the job.

If you like Palin – well go ahead. It’s a free country. But quit saying that “the people” love Sarah Palin.

They don’t. Actually, they quite dislike her. The longer they know her, the more they dislike her. And even more than they dislike her, they do not respect her. That reaction of dislike and disrespect is most concentrated among American women.

Sarah’s constituency is a relatively small cohort of conservative men. I offended a lot of these people last week by suggesting that there was some sexual dynamic at work in the enthusiasm for the politician whom Rush Limbaugh used to describe as “Governor Babe.” So let’s put it this way: Whatever impulse it is that so excites Palin supporters, it is not shared by their wives.

Frum is an idiot. Full stop.

I'm not going to attempt to discredit the poll he cited, but the man has an obsession and it's time to move on.

I know....

Obviously you don't, or you wouldn't have constructed a strawman of my opinion of her.

I think you have a problem with doing that because you may still have to give her your support.

I don't have to give anyone my support. Whether or not I do would depend, as it always does, on what the alternatives are. That includes democrats.

So what is your personal opinion of palin?

That she's smarter than her critics general portray her, that much of what is said about her is simply false, that she's too willing to play the populist card for my taste, and that she's not ready for a presidential run yet. But she's got a lot of time to prepare, so it's too early to count her out.

And the sort of lies that your earlier link put forward about Palin? What do you suppose they are a sign of? Confidence that she's a nobody? That she's got zero popularity? No, I don't think so.

I should coco. It's the sort of thing seen in non-US media.

If you can find some publications by her non-US fan club, feel free to post them.

Rolfe.

won't count her out.....ok you've done your duty and covered yourself in case you are required to believe she is the best person to be president at some time in the future. Now you can get on with being laughed at :)

Just curious, do you think the GOP would ever be stupid enough to nominate her? I mean.....besides them being stupid enough to put her up for VP.....jeebus that must have been fun for you, Having to support a candidate of her non qualities.

She was picked for VP by one person, with a handful of people advising him. If she becomes the GOP candidate for president, it will be by the party as a whole. VERY different processes, by very different groups. To label both as the GOP is, well, foolish. I have no idea at this point whether or not she'll get the nomination. Neither does anyone else.

What, because Biden was so much better? And you don't know who I voted for or supported.

Biden is the actual VP right now. Sarah Palin is a private citizen. Why is it that she attracts so much more media attention than Biden?

For the same reason Kanye West gets more attention than say, I dunno Nick Cave.

Its the celebrity star system really. Some shine brighter than others because they're more attractive, or have more appeal, or the perception of their "attitude", or their tendence to cause controversy, etc.

And since mainstream politics is really based on a similar dynamic I think its fairly obvious why Palin would get more attention than Biden.

The fact Biden is actually the VP - something I agree should get more coverage just by dint of the fact he has much wider, actual responsibilities that affect America pretty deeply - can't really compete with a media attention span the size of a gnat fully consumed by the celebrity star machine.

Because she's an attention whore?

Rolfe.

Oh, simple obvious answers, how warm you feel!

I'd add that the media does like an attention whore too. People often mistake attention with approval, even negative attention.
