I have speculated at length about this, and I've pretty much maintained that the GOP will split between the religious-right, socially conservative and big business (or GOP establishment) wings of the party. This merely reinforces how I have seen Palin fitting into the future of the GOP...

My thoughts are that if the GOP is dumb enough to nominate her for a 2012 presidential run, then they will essentially be committing political suicide.
 
I would agree with your assessment, but I think she's outright stated she won't run...that could change though.

Also....she has charisma? REALLY?
 
If Obama turns out to be a terrible president she might win. That's why I really hope Obama turns out to be a phenomenal president. The prospect of President Palin is astonishingly scary. I hope she's still hot 4 years from now.

Seeing as how Bush has been such a horrible president, I think just about anyone could come off better with the bar set so damned low. Having said that, I think Obama will be a great president, by any measure.
 
Y'know Mattus you are sposed to keep quiet about this stuff so they WILL run her in 2012. That way the Dems have an easy win, remember? :D

Some people have horrifically low standards for charisma.

Dear god...she came across, to myself and a few others I know, as being a shrill harpy. I didn't think she had any presence at all, and I found her to be highly grating.

On the subject of charisma, the greatest myth built up in the 2008 election cycle was this idea that Palin gave an incredible, amazing speech at the GOP convention.

The reality being that it was a terrible speech, in which she read words of the teleprompter like a stiff 70's printer churns out lines.

Can we not wait before starting a 2012 thread??!

If we can't wait a couple years, then at least a few months, say until the President Elect is installed?

Why? I doubt either party is waiting to get its 2012 campaign going and the Republicans no doubt are already getting articles of impeachment ready to go.

No one else is waiting; why should we?

You jest, but I have already seen a number of groups online with titles along the lines of "Impeach Obama" - though they are small (for now), they appear to be very dedicated. Getting an early start, indeed.

You can expect the wingnut section of the right to be glomming on to this silliness in the years to come.

I don't see any way Palin gets enough primary support to win the nomination. Probably do as well as Huckabee did, they appeal to the same segment.
 
Palin will have trouble getting the big bucks from GOP contributors. They are shrwed enough to know the GOP will have to win back a lot of moderates, and Palin will not do that.

A rather popular obama results in most of the other candidates with some name recognition decideing to wait untill 2016.
