Palin "clears herself" in Troopergate, day before report

What part of -
the ongoing raids of Acorn offices and massive reports of voter fraud. A real scandal with real implications.
Is not a real scandal?

What part of
this ridiculous BS about her trying to get a bad cop fired.
Is not ridiculous BS?

What part of -
No, not bizarro world, just the world of those that don't view said world through the eyes of Fox news, Hannity and Rush Limbaugh
...is not the bizarro world, with ridiculous bias many people here share, and their complete denial, demonstrably political hacks?

There's a thread on that. It's being blown out of proportion. There was never much danger of anyone actually getting away with fraud. Acorn is required by law to submit all voter applications it receives, even those it thinks might be fraudulent. It flags those. Republicans try to twist that to make it seem like Acorn as an organization is tryingto commit fraud. That is just not true.

And I don't think Wooten is a bad cop. He is a good man who has been smeared and demonized. Todd Palin is a sociopath. Wooten is the victim.

"Troopergate" : Still being treated as a huge, real scandal.. while I'm not seeing any threads at all about the ongoing raids of Acorn offices and massive reports of voter fraud. A real scandal with real implications. Instead, we still will obsess over this ridiculous BS about her trying to get a bad cop fired. There are times where I am honestly worried that I will hurt myself trying to understand the ridiculous bias so many people here share, and their complete denial when it's pointed out. It's bizarro world, at best.
Look everyone. Whiplash is outraged.

(Is there any other posting mode?)

Because the ACORN scandals are a small group independant from the Obama campaign with a history of voter fraud? Or is it that these 2,000 fradulent voter registration forms were not Ok'ed by the Obama campaign and that no one at the campaign is attempting to cover up the scandal? Or maybe that your post is just a lame attempt at tossing out a red herring and hope that everyone forgets Palin is a liar?

I basically agree. The whole thing looked like a tempest in a tea pot. Then McCain staff started speaking for the state, wild accusations were made by Palin, previous cooperation from top to bottom turned upside down, and the cover up was on. I could not help but wonder what there was that made all this McCain campaign effort necessary.

As I posted elsewhere, this effort is politically really dumb. They should have pushed the investigation as fast as possible, cooperated (if only at the "for show" level) and taken whatever minor hit was in the cards then moved on. By now, the whole thing would have been ancient history.

But that has not happened. It appears that this scenario is directly parallel with Watergate - a massive coverup of a minor crime. That is why this won't go away.

Still small potatoes. Sure it speaks poorly of her but in the context of the national-level issues and her other bleedingly obvious flaws, this would be a minor blip on the radar.

The whole cover up is bad campaign political strategy from a party whose only virtue is that they do campaign politics like no other.

Law breaking by an executive officer of a state is never, ever small potatoes unless it was utterly inadvertent like missing a filing deadline they were unaware of or similar.

Hyperbole much? Either that of that word you used up there? "honestly"? It doesn't mean what you think it means.

bolding mine...
Project much? Do you know what the real source of your stress is? ;)
You call attention to yourself so often it is hard to pick out the actual argument, is that intentional?

Sure enough, looks like she sent Todd and Bailey to just about everybody trying to get Wooten fired.

I think this is a career breaker. People still remember Gonzo and the US Attorney firings.

(There is action on that item in the news right now, but it seems kind of subdued right now.)

Don't be so hard on Whiplash. It is obvious that he is confused by his journeys through space/time. In this reality, "times" are denoted by "when's," not "where's." Clearly Whiplash has discovered a way to bend space/time so that a "time" can be experienced in multiple spacial coordinates, and in some of those, he is honestly worried that he will hurt himself trying to understand the ridiculous bias so many people "here" share. This would imply that Whiplash is travelling to alternate realities, and in some of those Palin is an honest, intelligent, and worthy candidate. He is having difficulty ascertaining which "where" is Bizarro, and which is not.

You know, if they had done this a month ago, it would have been a perfect opportunity for McCain to abandon the whole Palin mess, and avoid all the problems that came with her. No need to worry about being hung out to dry by Katie Couric.

And what a great chance for McCain to come out looking like a stand-up guy. "We won't stand for no power abuser in my administration."

Now what can he do? It's too late to dump her and get someone new. Or is it? Find another great VP candidate that no one knows and let them give a great speech at the convention...oh wait. Yeah, it's too late.

You didn't catch the primetime two-hour ad buy? Oct 28th, Republican Convention 2: Electric Boogaloo

The funniest thing in all of this, is that if Palin had just complied with the investigation, answered questions, and made no deal out of it, it would have likely faded out long ago. She and the McCain Campaign, by fair near obstructing the investigation, shrouded it in mystery, begging the question "what is she hiding".

Here's some of Time Magazine's analysis of the outcome of Troopergate:
Time Magazine said:
A harsh verdict? Consider the report's findings. Not only did people at almost every level of the Palin administration engage in repeated inappropriate contact with Walt Monegan and other high-ranking officials at the Department of Public Safety, but Monegan and his peers constantly warned these Palin disciples that the contact was inappropriate and probably unlawful. Still, the emails and calls continued — in at least one instance on recorded state trooper phone lines.

The state's head of personnel, Annette Kreitzer, called Monegan and had to be warned that personnel issues were confidential. The state's attorney general, Talis Colberg, called Monegan and had to be reminded that the call was putting both men in legal jeopardy, should Wooten decide to sue. The governor's chief of staff met with Monegan and had to be reminded by Monegan that, "This conversation is discoverable ... You don't want Wooten to own your house, do you?"

Monegan consistently emerges as the adult in these conversations, while the Palin camp displays a childish impetuousness and sense of entitlement.
It is not so much an indictment of the Palins as monsters who abuse their power to crush their enemies as it paints the picture of the Governor and he husband as incredibly ignorant about how government should work. Yes, she is a Washington outsider. She's also an Alaska outsider. She is apparently a civics class outsider. How McCain could nominate this politician who knows nothing about politics to be his running mate is nearly beyond comprehension. She's the most embarrassingly unqualified nominee for high office since... well... Harriet Miers.

I have to disagree with you. I think Sarah Palin is throwing McCain under the bus, so to speak. I think she knows they're going to lose in November, and she's just trying to do all that she can to endear herself to the conservatives in the Republican party (hence all her stupid comments about Obama of late). I think she views herself as the new darling of the hardcore right-wing branch of the GOP, and she's looking ahead to 2012.

She's not going away - we'll be seeing more of her. Trust me.
