Pakistan

The Guardian reports that a coalition government is forming -- or has formed -- with Shehbaz Sharif of the Muslim party tabbed to be the next prime minister. Imran Khan's PTI party is not part of the coalition despite having won the most seats (though not a majority) in last Sunday's elections..
A coalition including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PLM-N) and the Pakistan People’s party (PPP) have agreed to form the next government of Pakistan, ensuring that the party of former prime minister Imran Khan will not take power despite getting the most votes in the election. At a press conference in Islamabad on Tuesday night, it was confirmed that the rival parties had agreed, with two smaller coalition partners, to form a joint government “to take Pakistan out of difficulty” and that PLM-N’s president, Shehbaz Sharif, would be their sole nominee for prime minister.

PTI and other smaller parties have accused PML-N and PPP candidates of benefiting from alleged rampant vote-rigging and electoral interference, which had drawn condemnation from the US, UK and EU...The coalition also reaffirmed the continued dominance of Pakistan’s two most powerful dynasties – the Bhuttos and the Sharifs – over the country’s politics.Guardian news link

How about Imran Khan? Does he stay in prison?

Imran Khan acquitted... then arrested again.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — A Pakistani court on Saturday overturned the convictions and seven-year sentences of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, but officials quickly moved to prevent his release from prison.

The acquittal in a case relating to the legality of the couple’s 2018 marriage seemed to have removed the last hurdle in the way of Khan’s release, nearly a year after he was jailed, and his followers had started gathering near the prison where he was being held in the garrison city of Rawalpindi to greet him on his release.

But shortly after the court’s ruling, Khan was arrested yet again, in connection to riots last year, his party said. It added that it believed Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, was also being arrested again, in a lingering corruption case.
