Merged Osama bin Laden dead,

Turn me on? No. It would make the news even better though. I hope US special forces busted in his house, shot him in the stomach and let him bleed out while feeding him pork.

you shouldn't say bad things about people, you're only bringing yourself down to his level
:D

Can we have this sent to AAH? I missed seeing the threads farther downb the page when I came home from work. Seems some people are not handling victory for the good guys too well.

This is a momentous event. The actual removal of Bin Laden from the world of Radical Islam will not make any profound changes to that battle; it existed long before he turned up and will exist long after he is dust, but this will have a profound psychological impact in the west, and in particular in the USA.

As a symbolic gesture, this raid has enormous impact. I am impressed with the US President for having the courage and persistence to select a goal and stick to it. And most importantly, a general salute to the intelligence staff and military personnel that made this a reality.

Somehow, the victory seems hollow without a trial, but the victory is rendered no less sweet by the justice delivered by the dedicated military forces of the United States of America.

I raise my glass to these fine military men and women, and to those who lead them.

Hooray for OUR side!

Although I am glad he is dead , you should not mismatch this for a victory. It is only a revenge. To have been promoted from revenge to victory, he would have had to be captured alive, brought back to the USA, condemned to death after a fair trial (my tip on the means of execution : let him drop from an helicopter overing at the height of the two tower rooftop was). As it stand , he was only killed. In the end , if one tally the number of victim, patriot act , DHS, paranoia, and so on, I feel sadly, however I dislike it, that the advantage is still Bin Laden.

That said, good riddance, and now hopefully can the American folk heal their trauma.

This and other associated psychological and emotional benefits is precisely why this is such a profound victory.

Are there any informations on whether he had the organisation membership records about his person? ;)

He was probably behind on the overdue membership dues catch-up. Not enough cash in the kitty to buy morning-coffee and a cookie!

One of the first commentaries I heard said that there's nobody in Al Qaeda "big enough" to step into the role as symbol. We'll see...

As far as I undestand bin laden has been "out" for a long time, with the terrorist cell splintering into small group, making them harder to trace than a big organized one which need to communicate and thus are eqasier to pinpoint.

I just talked with my mom on the phone.

Me: Did you hear, Bin Laden is dead?

Mom: Wasn't he the one responsible for 7-Eleven?

Me: Lol!

So who gets the reward? (Or did that offer disappear with Dubya's presidency?)

The $27M reward ($25M from the State Department and $2M from the Airline Pilots Association) reward is still listed on the FBI website. But I dunno if anyone will get it seeing as how the intelligence used to find him originated from Gitmo detainees.
