I think people recognize that it is an individual jerk, not a party of jerks.

I'm not so sure about that Tricky - Limbaugh, Coulter, O'Reilly, Cheney, Palin, and Jindal - big jerks.

I'm sure the Republicans here could come up with a list of Democrats or left-leaning commentators to call "jerks" as well. Especially partisan commentators. They make their living by being jerks.

Certainly I am more likely to agree with your list, but then, I'm not impartal on these things either, and I recognize that. I will say, though, that I'm glad the left doesn't have anyone they have to spin or apologize for as much as Coulter and Limbaugh.

No, all Democrats and left-leaning commentators are right, always.

You ever hear of a guy named "Keith Olbermann"?

Olbermann is in the same vein as O'Reilly, neither of which are anywhere as bad as Coulter and Limbaugh. I bet the left does have people as insane, but they aren't as mainstream.

Or Jeneanne Garafalo?

Question: Do people really listen to what she has to say about politics? Other than the extreme fringe that already thinks the same way?

At most, I used to think she was funny, but I haven't seen her in anything funny in years.

Yeah, and he's not one of my favorites for the reason that he does a lot of what Rush does, like hard-editing videos and quotes to distort their meaning. But he hasn't done anything (that I can recall) that caused the Democrats to have to spin, or even worse, deny like the Repubs have for Rush and Coulter.

O'Reilly invites opposing points of view. Olbermann, not so much.

O'Reilly invites opposing views so he can trash them and cut off people's mikes before they have a chance to respond.

Once in a while, but, not often. Guests on Olbermann must be certifiably in-sync with his every thought.

While I don't have any evidence, that sounds like a lie. I have recollections of him having republican guests on his show before, but it's been a while since I've watched it. In general, I think he's just funnier than O'Reilly, who just acts like a jerk.

No, it's pretty much anyone who disagrees with him, like when he interrupted, strawmanned, and shouted down this Iraq war veteran who was trying to answer his question. True, he doesn't do it every show, because he doesn't always invite people who disagree with him, but if he does, you can be certain that they will not be given a chance to finish a statement.

There's some truth in that. Nevertheless, I think Olberman would destroy O'Reilly in a live, mediated debate where O'Reilly couldn't interrupt.

You selected a couple examples of shouting out of thousands of shows in which he doesn't shout down guests with opposing views.

Come on Marc, O'Reilly is a pathological liar, he is often hypocritical, he gets his facts wrong all the time, and he pretends to be "fair and balanced" just like most of the people on Fox News.

Olbermann may have a point of view, but he isn't a liar and he only rarely gets something wrong or says something that might be hypocritical.

And here's a recent critique of an O'Reilly column.

O'Reilly is a brilliant debater. Anyone who believes otherwise really hasn't seen him in action. He's skilled in doing an angry, passionate debate. He's truly a dangerous person to debate, because he's a true believer, articulett, and charismatic.

That being said, anyone who thinks that makes him RIGHT needs to hear Kent Hovind demolish people who debate evolution with him - talking back and forth is not the best medium for determining truth.

Olbermann is as passionate as O'Reilly, as dedicated, and as much a true believer. That being said, he has about 1/10th the charisma.

If you really think he can win, examine your assumptions. The only person on TV I think that could truly win a debate with O'Reilly is Stephen Colbert, simply by performing a reductio ad absurdum on every stupid thing he says (or maybe Bill Myer, by making O'Reilly want to strangle him (the one thing everyone on earth could agree with Lielly on).

Edit: On topic, I really think the GOP has put another feather in their cap of hypocrisy. After Gore v. Bush, where they argued it was definitely very important to resolve this ASAP, faster, faster, faster, for the good of the nation, we're now left with... um... well, apparently drag it out as long as possible.
