Last night, in yet another bizarre segment entitled Religion Under Siege, O’Reilly’s encyclopedic understanding of the Christmas holiday came to light.
“We’ve been reporting, as you know, on the many attempts to diminish Christmas throughout America. Now it’s time to look at the other side. Millions of Americans are fed up, angry that Christmas is under siege by secular forces and some are fighting back.”
During this little intro Bill showed two graphics. The first was a decorated tree with the words “Christmas Controversy” underneath. The second included the words “Fighting Back” with a picture of a pissed-off Santa. Now, we’re not theologians, but we could open a drive-thru seminary that would pump out people with a firmer grasp of Christianity than Bill. O’Reilly fails to understand that Christmas trees and Santa are the two primary symbols of the secularization of Christmas.*
...Thankfully, Bill O’Reilly and the [Alliance Defense Fund] are promoting change. One day we will all be able to celebrate Christmas without the scorn and shame we endure today. No longer will we decorate our trees behind closed curtains and hide fancifully wrapped gifts within crawlspaces and in
crudely cut-out holes in walls behind bookcases.
Please, Bill. Save Christmas. Before it’s too late.
