One in two GPs 'will refuse swine flu vaccine' (Pulsetoday.co.uk)

One in two GPs 'will refuse swine flu vaccine'

The description of the surveys indicates that they are probably not generalizable. The numbers are far too low to be representative. There is no mention of a sample (simply respondents), let alone random sampling. This means that one can say that 56 GP's don't intend to get vaccinated, but one cannot say anything about GP's as a group.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

Linda

I found the list of participants vague, and think we'd benefit a bit from a more detailed breakdown:

Having worked in a hospital, there are a lot of roles that don't require significant medical knowledge, even though they may require physiology or biology. Would 'allied health professionals' include, say, radiology technicians and blood lab techs?

72 and 80% were nurses (there were two surveys)
19 and 12% were doctors
About 1% were administration
The rest were "allied health" or "other.

Huh? Outer darkness how? They are all allowed to call themselves general practitioners/doctors here!

Chiropractors and naturopaths are not going to be calling themselves "GPs" in Britain, believe me. That's only for qualified doctors, and chiropractors and naturopaths are not qualified doctors in Britain.

Your mileage may vary of course.

I know many nurses are taught pro-altie med junk and are encouraged to follow their guts rather than apply any critical thinking or scientific method to their evaluation of crank information that would lead to their fracced view on vaccines.

Informed by a philosophy that embraces wholeness and balance of body-mind-spirit, the authors each led a 13-week university course in which undergraduate students explored the history and practice of alternative and complementary healing modalities. Students submitted weekly journals chronicling their responses to and understanding of the course material. The journals were examined to gain an understanding of students’ experiences related to all aspects of the course content and process. Thematic analysis revealed a major concept (searching and re-searching) as well as five subconcepts (engaging, opening, hesitating, understanding, and knowing) that represented the iterative process of interacting with and reflecting on the learning of often unfamiliar approaches to healing.

Ugh. Nothing about researching any of it to see if it did more harm that good to delay other treatment modaliteis that are actually proven to be effective. You just believe and make believe.

I'm not convinced the nursing profession in Britain is a hotbed of woo, to be fair.

Rolfe.

Which GPs were polled and how? I would also like to know what reason the GPs would give for not getting it. There's no reason to trust this poll, really.

When I go to the site I am asked if I'm a healthcare worker. I could easily lie. I'll bet they never even confirmed if who they were asking were actually GPs.

If the nurses are listening to the woo woo lies about the vaccine not being "tested enough", then something is up.
