Old Computers

Mmmm.

Only two mentions of Macs and one of them is a guy with a computer museum.

Didn't someone in the Mac vs PC thread say that Macs have a longer life span. Wonder where they are?

:D
In 2000 I splurged on what was probably the best off-the-shelf pc that money could buy, a Mac G4 450 with a Gig of RAM. I'm glad I did: it's been running pretty much 24/7 since, without a single problem. It's pokey now, though. It struggles to keep up with my large iTunes and iPhoto collections, and it recently took 4 days to render a 52-minute iMovie video. And I've had a few hard drives die since then, but the machine's original 27 Gig still plugs along.

I bought a Compaq laptop last year and it died twice in a month.

I have a 333Mhz G3 iMac humming happily (if a little loudly) behind me in my home office, running a headless Debian install. It works as a web and mail server for nine sites and hasn't gone down since I first set it up. *knocks on wood*

Note: The UPS helps a lot with that...
