Back when I was young and poor, I had a pair of dress shoes that was small for me. They were hand me downs from my brother, but they were better than anything else I had by far. I wore them to job interviews. I would drive to the interview wearing sneakers, wedge my feet into the shoes in the car and go to the interview.
I do remember that getting my feet in was tough, but once they were in the leather would relax a bit and it wasn't that bad, but it was great to get them off again.
Looking back it does seem stupid. A passable pair of dress shoes couldn't have cost that much. I think I may have used them because they were a very nice pair and when going for interviews for my first 'real' job I wanted to impress. Having interviewed lots of people over the years, the only time I really noticed shoes was when they were inappropriate. The boat shoes with the suit and the stiletto heels.
