It seems the right wing BS echo chambers were really big on some made up story that Obama was going to give America the middle finger by spending July 4th with surrender monkeys in Paris.

This one has funny pictures: http://directorblue.blogspot.com/2012/07/independence-day-in-paris.html

Only it totally wasn't true.

Obama is not going to be in Paris where conservatives presumably think he would be drinking toasts to how awful America is.

Now they're saying it is his campaign going there, so Obama is still unpatriotic!

This reminds me of the made up "Obama spending millions of taxpayer dollars on Indian vacation."
They have no arguments about Obama's policies or merits, so they have to continually make stuff up.

And here's how Obama actually spent the 4th:

Obama Marks Fourth With New U.S. Citizens

WASHINGTON — President Obama for a fourth straight Fourth of July joined with military families to eat barbecue and watch fireworks from the White House lawn, but this year he also began the day with active-duty service members, presiding at a citizenship ceremony that made 25 of them new Americans.

And in between, he marked the 14th birthday of his older daughter, Malia.

You people haven't connected the dots. Let's look at the sequence of events:

1) Brave conservative commentators point out that Barry Obama will be in Paris on July 4
2) Barry Obama changes his mind, and spends July 4 in America

Get it?

FTFY

Seriously I promise you at some point today I will hear customers repeating this lie.

Meanwhile, as right-wingers lie about that elitist, out-of-touch Obama spending July 4th in Paris instead of holding a barbecue for American military personnel (where he made such America-hating statements as "“And as long as I have the honor of being your Commander-in-Chief, I want you all — our men and women in uniform, our veterans and their families — to know this: America will always remember. We will always be there for you, just as you’ve been there for us”), they're very pointedly not saying a single thing about Romney spending his Independence Day at his $8 million lakefront compound in New Hampshire (where no US servicemembers were invited).

Just so we're clear on where everyone's priorities are.

To be fair, Romney is not a public official (yet). His choice to spend the holiday in a private event should not be criticized. Obama, however, is the head of the US government. It is reasonable to expect him to do some public patriotic event on the 4th. I would expect it as much as I would expect the pope to give midnight mass on Christmas eve, its just part of the job.

So as far as I am concerned, both did exactly what I would expect of them this July 4th.

While I'm entirely unsurprised that Romney, despite being the presumptive Republican presidential nominee on the campaign trail, decided to spend Independence Day at his private estate, I'm not actually criticising him for that.

I'm criticising the right-wing bloggers and talking heads who were all up in arms about a blatant lie they were telling about Obama, while not making a single peep about Romney. Counterfactuals can be problematic, but I'm pretty sure that if it was Romney who was holding a 4th of July barbecue for servicemembers, while Obama spent the holiday ensconsed at a private lakeside estate, they'd be just as up in arms about Obama.

Which, if that were the case, they would have every right to. The POTUS is the head of state. There are certain ceremonial functions that we have a right to expect of him. If he shirked such responsibilities he should be criticized.

However, I agree, that it does seem a bit absurd that lacking any such actual shirking, the right wing decides to pretend that he did anyway and criticize him for it despite the facts.
