Warner: How many ongoing FBI investigations at any time?
Comey: Tens of thousands.
Warner: President ever ask about any other?
Comey: No

Intriguing.

Not really. Why would he have any interest in investigations that have nothing at all to do with him or those immediately around him?

Good grief, John McCain just can't let it go that the FBI completed the Clinton email investigation. What an ass.

He even wants to draw her into the Russian investigation, as if she colluded against herself.

McCain sounds a tad senile this morning.

Speaker Paul Ryan on Thursday defended President Donald Trump’s communications with ex-FBI director James Comey, saying Trump wasn’t “steeped in the long-running protocols” of how to interact with law enforcement.

“The president’s new at this,” Ryan said at a news conference. “He’s new at government.”
The Wisconsin Republican also expressed sympathy for Trump's frustration with the Russia investigation, noting that Comey testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee that Trump was not the subject of the probe. “I think the American people now know why he was frustrated.”

Yeah give him a break. You can't expect more from someone who ran for the single most important and powerful government office.

Defending Trump's behavior by pointing to his lack of practical experience in governance, let alone his complete lack of theoretical understanding of how the US government works, erodes the high standards that should be placed state leadership.

The notion that "with great power comes great responsibility" does apparently not apply to incompetent, misinformed and uneducated Presidents as long as they happen to come from your political party. I mean if said dunderhead President plays along and allows said party to enact its agenda everything's nice. Only when they become bothersome and interferes with your own political ambitions does it become problematic...

They know that when you finish one, you have to start all over again, see Bengahzi.

Mccain seems to be struggling with following any logic here.
It's a bit concerning tbh. :boggled:

He sounds senile.

He keeps saying "Comey" when he means "Trump", and doesn't seem to be able to understand the e-mail investigation is separate from the Russian interference investigation. It doesn't sound like partisanship, but actual senility/incoherence.

When they get to, "The senator's time had expired," it will be a little too on the nose for McCain.

I don't even know what to say at this point. They melted down over that stupid Lynch meeting. If Obama did that it would be non-stop 24/7 hysteria that our country was falling apart.

I'm glad Obama didn't do that. It's deeply wrong. Recall that 7 special prosecutors were appointed during Bill Clinton's presidency based on the fear that the APPEARANCE of a conflict of interest would obstruct investigations.

This is an obscene double-standard that legitimately threatens the functioning of our government.

Obama strategically would never call for one, and his corrupt DOJ certainly never would. He should have had almost as many as Clinton.

This moment was kind of a big deal.

Cotton: Do you believe President Trump colluded with Russia?

Comey: It's a question I don't think I should answer in an open setting.

Not necessarily. Regardless of whether Comey believes there was or was not collusion, expression of his personal opinion in an public setting has the potential to disrupt ongoing investigations. His refusal to express opinion during a fact-finding investigation isn't indicative of anything other than Comey's professionalism and integrity.

Nuance and technicality. Trump didn't explicitly ask him to terminate the investigation. Trump expressed hope that Comey would let it go.

This is my thought on that

When my CEO says "I hope you can find a way...", that is an order, and the only thing that will prevent me from finding a way is professional integrity
Common knowledge among people who have had to answer to other people in charge of the paycheck department

I know that you don't have a very high opinion of Trump, but he made his wishes clear to someone with the position to effect those wishes. Just because he didn't couch it in terms of a direct order is a weak getout. His invite to the dinner with Comey was also suspicious in that way.

In fact it is hard to read it as anything other than that

Here's a vaguely relevant youtube video
