That very well depends on what kind of job he does in Iraq. Could be a specialist in something or a well placed officer.

Don't know how it is in the US, but Norwegian soldiers doing foreign service earn a LOT more than people back home.

If he went as a private contractor he likely could earn much more money than he could doing the same job in the US.
