Obama's So Cool...

And the prize for biggest suckup of the year goes to Paul Waldman, for this unintentionally hilarious column on Barack's coolness:

:boggled:

Of course all the conservative blogs piled on Waldman for that ridiculous comment, so he attempted a rowback:

1. That argument might work, if the two posts in question hadn't been titled "Cool Kids Versus Squares".
2. If he thinks Obama is hard to parody, he hasn't been watching Saturday Night Live.
3. I don't want a cool president, and for what it's worth, I don't think he is. He's kind of dorky, which is fine with me.

Jon Cole of Balloon Juice, unintentionally proves the latter point with a post intended to show just how cool Barack is. He's got a picture there of Obama and the gal who played Uhuru on the original Star Trek, doing the Spock "Live long and prosper" finger thing, heh.

How big of a nerd do you have to be to think that's cool?

The article looked a bit like a parody especially the bit about how he bets Romney could never be that cool.

Really? How about the plight of ice melting?

Seriously, who the hell cares?

About ice melting? I think this has been a massive concern for, among others, climate scientists for a number of years. It slipped Al Gore's mind in 2000 though.

It's great to see that this is so important. I guess that means all the other things are under control.

I think the look over there tactic works better if you tell people what to look at. For example, I'm sure glad that global warming thing is under control so we can focus on such frivolities as a guy who writes an indistinguishable-from-parody article about how cool Obama is.

I hear this from the right, but there's never specifics as to what Obama screwed up.

This is what I hear all the time, also, "I don't like his policies."
I asked a friend of mine "which policies?" He tells me, "too many restrictions". "On what?" I ask, suspecting he is just parroting all these right wing talking points.

Seriously, his response, "I'll have to research that and I'll let you know."

Grumpy: "...full of wicked wiles!"
Bashful: "What are wicked wiles?"
Grumpy: "I don't know, but I'm agin' 'em."

Oh, tu quoque much?

Do you not understand what a tu quoque is?

Tu quoque is where you defend a bad action by pointing to a similar bad action on the part of someone else.

I reject your basic premise and think there's nothing wrong with going on late night shows. I am not conceding your point at all. I am pointing out that your criticisms are hypocritical because Mitt Romney just went on Letterman and did all of these things and in fact, so did Bush, Obama, Clinton, and Gore. Sarah Palin went on SNL. Nixon went on Laugh In.

It's fine.

But suddenly the GOP says going on a comedy show is breaking the equal time laws? It's not a tu quoque to point out that their sudden outrage is hollow and manufactured.

It'd be like them getting mad that the Obamas use the Secret Service when traveling and that this costs money...

Oh wait, they are doing that too.

Where to begin? Here's a start:
  1. Obamacare
  2. First President to Preside Over a Cut to the Credit Rating of the United States Government
  3. First President to Orchestrate the Sale of Murder Weapons to Mexican Drug Cartels
  4. First President to be Held in Contempt of Court for Illegally Obstructing Oil Drilling in the Gulf of Mexico
  5. First President to Spend a Trillion Dollars on 'Shovel-Ready' Jobs -- and Later Admit There Was No Such Thing as Shovel-Ready Jobs
  6. First President to sue states for requiring valid IDs to vote, even though the same administration requires valid IDs to travel by air
  7. First President to Abrogate Bankruptcy Law to Turn Over Control of Companies to His Union Supporters
  8. First President to sign into law a bill that permits the government to "hold anyone suspected of being associated with terrorism indefinitely, without any form of due process. No indictment. No judge or jury. No evidence. No trial. Just an indefinite jail sentence."
  9. Chose Biden to be his VP.
  10. Accused an innocent white cop without all the facts.
  11. Tried to deny he sat and listened to a racist preacher for twenty years.
  12. Appointed a racist communist to be his "green czar"

One thing that the POTUS product of Chicago gangster politics ain't is cool.
Not sure why you think not?

For those who don't find townhall acceptable reading ...

Obama appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s show this past week and did a slow jam with Fallon and his house band—a brilliant move by the Entertainer-in-Chief. I thought it was both funny and smart.

From a comedy perspective, it was well-written and well-performed by Obama, Fallon and The Roots. In terms of cleverness, it was shrewd in that the young people who watch Jimmy’s show probably don’t—or won’t—follow the manifold ways BHO has hammered the U.S. through his policies, and the majority of them love to laugh.

Ignorance + a Funny Bone = Ripe Pickings for the President.

So, from a propaganda angle, I believe Barack nailed a three-pointer; couch the lie between music and comedy, and boom … it won’t even touch the net! If they don’t wake up, Obama will get the same kids who bought a plate of economic crap from him in ‘08 asking for seconds in 2012 just because he’s hip.

Yep, it might start to dawn on them that, sure, Obama is cool, he can sing a mean Al Green, and it’d be awesome to have a beer with him … but unfortunately, they can’t because:

• They’re broke.
• There are no jobs.
• They can’t drive to the pub because gas is so expensive.
• They are living in mommy’s basement.
• And their lives suck worse than Rosie O’Donnell extracting the jam out of a jelly doughnut.
This realization, in turn, might turn them off from putting the premium on cool and convince them to start examining which candidate has a better record, betwixt the twain, to stabilize our economy, stop the massive bleeding, and create jobs, wealth and opportunity. At the end of the day, a prosperous America is truly cool, and being a broke-ass college scrub, well … that sucks.

So, nothing substantial. Got it.
1 Obamacare is a success, not a screw up.
2 credit rating cut was result of Bush policies.
3 I doubt it. Evidence, please.
4 a safety moratorium after the largest oil soil is justified, and smart.
5 WTF?
6 fighting the republicans on voter suppression is a good thing.
7 this was a good thing that saved the automobile industry.
8. I'll give you this one. He should never have sided with the GOP on this one.
9 Biden is am awesome VP
10 don't know of this, but it's probably nonsense
11 a stupid, republican talking point with no bearing on governance
12 prove it

You asked for specifics on why someone would think Obama screwed up, or not like his policies, making the point that somehow some people just don't like him without any reason. While that is certainly true, and just as true is that some people like him, for no specific reasons, I gave you specific reasons, not as a matter of debate as to whether you agree with them or not, but simply to show you that people can have very real reasons why they might not like him. You want to debate specific points, open a new thread on any of them and we'll have at it.

Your specifics read like excuses to hate Obama, not reasons.
So says the guy that responds with "WTF" and "don't know of this, but it's probably nonsense". Maybe if you didn't hand wave away all criticism of you hero, you might understand some of the criticism, even if you don't agree with it.

Seriously, did you have any actual specifics as to how Obama has screwed the country up?

First you ask for specifics. You're given them. Then you ask for something substantial, now you're back to specifics. Having a bit of trouble with the goal posts are we?

Nope. Seems you have problems meeting the goal. Listing nonsense just doesn't pass muster.

What part of, "You want to debate specific points, open a new thread on any of them and we'll have at it. " do you not understand?

Hey, look, buddy, you ain't getting it. If it bad, it's Bush. Got it, chump?
