Obama wiretapped by NSA since 2004

She's probably lying or being paranoid about some technical glich. She made posts Sunday, Monday and two posts 10 hours ago. And how would she know that someone called "Patriot News" had hacked her account. Did they post something like "hi, we're Patriot News" on her page in her own name? Evidence?

Don't waste everybody's time with this nonsense, carlitos.

Apropos lying, RT got non other than ex-NSA director Michael Hayden for a 25 min (attempted damage limitation) interview with Sophie Shevardnadze (Eduard's granddaughter). I suggest you read this article on Asia Times before you watch it to comfortably be able to count the lies and distortions he spews under the friendly facade, especially in the first few minutes. Unfortunately she lets him get away with it.

Asia Times said:
Snowden and the three wise NSA whistleblowers
By Peter Lee

Whistleblowing is a risky business. I expect that, as they planned their course of action over the four months, Edward Snowden and his main media minder, Glenn Greenwald, paid very close attention to what happened to three past whistleblowers who crossed the NSA. And looking at these three men gives an idea of the interests, principles and powers that are being contested beneath the superficially simple tale of a young analyst who fled to Hong Kong to tell the world about runaway US government surveillance. [...]

None of the three is Tice who only gets hinted at in some paragraph concerning Risen's NYT article for which he had leaked anonymously. But all this stuff happened under Hayden's "watch". Here he is:

Thanks for bringing this up, Empress. It doesn't really matter what the politician in question is up to, what matters is that the information can be used to blackmail them, control them, and subvert democracy. Imagine if Anthony Weiner's texts hadn't been exposed, but instead hung over his head by a third party in an effort to influence his votes on legislation.. He might still be in Congress, serving the interests of god-knows-who. Such secretive, unaccountable power is a threat to democracy itself, regardless of whether or not it's been abused so far.

Exactly, dear collegue. Isn't it ironic that even when people of our profession show up and explain how it works, the little people won't believe it or are too scared to type a single word even given our obvious benevolence?

Anyway, here's another follow-up interview just published. Sibel Edmonds' co-host the magnificent Peter B. Collins takes it to a new level of specifics with Tice, apparently trying to finally force a response (18 minutes interview):

[...] We open with a quick summary of Tice’s background, and then he details the wiretapping of Feinstein’s offices, homes, and family. Tice also says NSA used other surveillance methods on Feinstein, and places the initiation of wiretaps in 2004 or 2005. He responds to questions about evidence for his disclosures, and his motive for revealing them now.

And he recaps the story of his appearance with Feinstein and Sen. Orrin Hatch on CNN’s Larry King show, where the senators defended the programs that Tice knew were also monitoring them.

Please share this widely: if Feinstein will answer these questions honestly, we might see a break in the hold NSA appears to have over top elected officials.

Is someone having a fire sale on whistleblower status? Is this the new term to replace the term 'truther'? I better go register the domain aeNSAwhistlebower.com before Richard Gage does.

I want whistleblower status too! Last month I caught two kids cheating on a standardized test! I turned them in, I turned them in!

Please explain in detail how Weiner's bad boy antics were a threat to "democracy itself"? Please also reference Weiner's legislative record as a member of the House of Representatives in your argument.

I don't need detail, if a sitting congressman were blackmailed the threat to democracy would be obvious. I also don't need to discuss Weiner's record because he clearly wasn't blackmailed. The point is, unaccountable surveillance like this leaves the door wide open to abuse. We don't need to wait until said abuse occurs, AND the public finds out about it, to point out the danger posed by such power.

(edit)To make sure I'm perfectly clear, I said "Imagine if Anthony Weiner's texts hadn't been exposed, but instead hung over his head by a third party in an effort to influence his votes on legislation". So don't ask me for imaginary evidence of Weiner's imaginary blackmailing, as I'm not brainstorming for a fiction novel here.

Nicaraguan president urges Obama to beware of US secret services

President of Nicaragua Daniel Ortega has urged US President Barack Obama and US politicians to be on their guard against becoming spy targets for their own secret services, Latin American media report.

Those employed by government agencies fall into the hands of the intelligence service and later easily become targets for all kinds of blackmail, Ortega said. [...]

A little late, but still good advise there... ;)

It's Tice's credibility that you'd need to attack though, goofy as boilingfrog might be the "source" in this case is Tice himself not boilingfrog or huffpo.

This means that in a generation from now, a "wannabe Senator from Illinois" would have his whole life's communication history recorded and when he raises his head with a remarkable speech, some shady unelected and unaccountable people behind the scenes will be able to go back to that whole life and decide if this person is "fit for the job", a bit devious but has enough skeletons in the closet to be tolerated (and blackmailed if necessary), or has to be opposed as troublemaker from the beginning. Which of course would be the end of any "freedom and democracy" stuff, for the long foreseeable future. Welcome Totalitarianism.

I have never, in my entire life, heard such crazy-paranoia in my entire life. So they record every conversation all 315+ million of us make through a 80 or 90 year life span. Then when the "Black Ops" guys decide to foil an election they go through the tens of thousands of phone calls this person made from their first call to mommy at age 6 until yesterday - just looking for dirt.

And as for "skeletons in the closet" - the really bad ones usually aren't talked about on the phone.

If you are in doubt about the technical issues I wrote about, feel free to ask so I can clue you in. If you are in doubt about if those kinds of powers will draw in those kinds of people and get abused, please take a history class.

Hey, what's a yottabyte here or there when there are Muslims are out to get us? "Power corrupts", such an archaic notion. Obviously Anthony Weiner is much more discreet than they are anyway, no way they'd find any dirt. They'd have to wade through every call he made to his wife and his mother, cos there's just no way to parse this stuff. :boggled:

NSA Sends Letter to Its ‘Extended’ Family to Reassure Them That They Will ‘Weather’ This ‘Storm’

[...] The letter, sent on September 13, is signed by NSA Director Gen. Keith Alexander and NSA Deputy Director John Inglis, begins, “We are writing to you, our extended NSA/CSS family, in light of the unauthorized disclosure of classified information by a former contractor employee.”

If anyone was thinking of breaking up with the NSA family, the letter states, “We want to put the information you are reading and hearing about in the press into context and reassure you that this Agency and its workforce are deserving and appreciative of your support.”

“Some media outlets have sensationalized the leaks to the press in a way that has called into question our motives and wrongly cast doubt on the integrity and commitment of the extraordinary people who work here at NSA/CSS—your loved one(s),” the letter suggests. “It has been discouraging to see how our Agency frequently has been portrayed in the news as more of a rogue element than a national treasure.” [...]
