Obama used terrorist Ayers as a ghostwriter

Hannity recently presented it as an unquestioned fact that Ayers ghost wrote Obama's book. We are watching the big lie technique in action here and it just might work well enough to get McCain and Palin elected.

Hannity is only technically literate. He is, however, incapable of reading critically and thus unable to tell that Cashill has handed him a steaming platter of compost.

The last time i listened to Hannity on the radio, he had, twice in the same show, quoted a passage from the Qur'an in a way that suggested to me that he was just telling us what some marginally more astute blathermeister than himself had told him as to the meaning of the passage.

Why do all the right-wing-nut talkers read 2. surah 191 like it proves something? Are they really that bereft of critical reading skills?

MaGZ, let me point out a little problem with your fantasy world.
....
By these means, you are able to conceal from yourself the fact that there is at least one black person who is smarter than you, who has achieved more than you, and who may very well be elected President while White Nationalists are treated as the pariahs which, frankly, they are....
Do we know this nonsense is based on racism? It could just as easily be based on NeoConism.

Are they mutually exclusive? Is Neoconism incompatible with an ability to read critically? Is racism incompatible with an inability to read critically?

...

That is a reasonable sentiment. It seems like the truth is possibly some place in between. It seems unlikely that he could engage in such relentless intellectually dishonest behavior in a completely guileless way. But it also seems likely that he is a true believer in his causes.

I think we both agree that we should concentrate on debunking MaGZ's statements rather than attacking his character.

However, MaGZ is well known for expressing racist statements and is known to be oppossed to the politicians who would fit the definition of neo-con. It is a safe bet, in other words.

In summary:

Cashill, a conspiracy theorist and extreme ideologue of notoriety, made a phenomenal claim involving a nonsensical transaction with no supporting evidence other than self-referential.

And given the nature of politics and the effectiveness of negative campaigning based on unsubstantiated smears Obama in net will still lose some votes because of this.

Fine.

MaGZ, Obama did not get his legal writings from Lawrence Tribe. They were given to him by the angel Gabriel on gold tablets. Analysis of similarities between the Old Testament and the volumes of the Harvard Law Review he edited prove it.

Hi

So... what about the other half? The bit that reads like a Tom Clancy novel?

The bit where the Muslin personal adviser to one of the richest men in the world calls a notable elder statesman and asks him to call some of his friends at Harvard and grease Obama's entry to those halls of learning?

I could talk about how it's common practice in technical papers to survey previous work,

You want a technical survey? From one of the experts (Juola) cited in Cahill articles comes a hundred or more papers of technical survey:

There's a section devoted to cusum.

If Mosteller and Wallace are stylometry’s best known success, it is equally important to discuss the best known failures. The cusum or Qsum technique, an abbreviation for “cumulative sum,” [10, 11, 39, 111] is a visual method for observing similarity between sequences of measures. As applied to sequences in general, one first takes the sequence, e.g., { 8, 6, 7, 5, 3, 0, 9, 2 . . . } and calculates the mean (in this case, 5). One then calculates the differences from the mean { 3, 1, 2, 0, −2, −5, 4, −3 . . . } and plots their “cumulative sum” { 3, 4, 6, 6, 4, −1, 3, 0 . . . }. This plot measures the homogeneity or stability of a feature — in the case of cusum, the feature is traditionally something like “percentage of words with two or three letters.” (but see Section 4).

This technique was rapidly adopted and used in several English court cases [including The Queen vs. Thomas McCrossen (Court of Appeal, London 1991), The Queen vs. Frank Beck (Leicester Crown Court 1992), and The Queen vs. Joseph Nelson-Wilson (London 1992)] as a forensic technique. Unfortunately, the accuracy of the technique almost immediately came under question; reports such as [24, 52, 53, 55, 60] suggested that the theory was not well-grounded and that the results were not accurate enough to be relied upon (especially given that the case mentioned were criminal cases). However, the ultimate downfall happened when “he was challenged on live British television to attribute texts that he had never seen. The result was disastrous;despite his impressive statistics and his fancy computer graphics, Morton could not distinguish between the writings of a convicted felon and the Chief Justice of England” [50].

Despite this failure variations on cusum such as WQsum (“weighted cusum”) continue to be used [15, 135, 136] and have some evidence for their validity. As will be seen, frequency analysis continues to be a major component of many successful algorithms. But the negative publicity of such a failure has cast a substantial shadow over the field as a whole.

Cusum, being totally objective, also fails to take into consideration the emotional weight of the words used. Thus, Obama's writing is distinguishable from Ayers' in its poetic quality. This is not testable by cusum.

I can't believe that 'mainstream' outlets have started picking up an obvious hack job like this. Where is integrity any more in our political process? Where is the concept that the voter should decide who they want to vote for? Lies, more lies, even more lies.
