At this point, Obama's best hope is a Palin nomination. The operative phrase being "at this point". Two years is an eternity in politics. For example, who would have predicted two years ago that The Big O would be so into the crapper?

And unlike Mrs. Palin, Mr. Obama got where he is by showing the American people, in no uncertain terms, what he stands for. We've seen him in power, and we've seen what he has done with that power. And now that we see what he stands for, even his own former supporters are rejecting him.

Clinton was a political whore, who was more dedicated to staying in power than to any ideology. He spent the first two years of his Presidency promoting Obamaesque policies, that even his own party couldn't stomach. In spite of all their efforts to distance themselves from Clinton's policies, Democrats in Congress got their assess kicked very hard in the 1994 elections. Being the whore that he is, Clinton stayed in office by distancing himself from his former policies, and pretending to be a conservative, and even happily taking credit for the results of the conservative policies from Congress that he had little choice but to go along with. “The era of big government is over!”, he proclaimed, after voters soundly rejected his attempts to bring us even bigger government.
Now, under Obama, we have the era of government running much more outrageously amok than Clinton ever dreamt, and the voters are rejecting it again. I doubt if Obama will try to pull a Clinton, and I hope the voting populace isn't foolish enough to fall for it again if he does.
I think the leading frontrunner is Romney. But he poses problems for the GOP. He's the same age as Clinton and Bush. I don't think Americans will elect a president who's the same age as the president who was elected twenty years earlier. And he's not as good-looking as Obama. The candidate who is better-looking is the best predictor of who will win.

My reading suggests just the opposite. His former supporters seem to be rejecting him because he has NOT exercised his power to implement the policies he stood for.
ABSOLUTELY SPOT ON! I voted for Obama and while I am certainly left leaning I far more centrist. Most of my friends are in the same boat.
I am totally pissed about Obama's handling of the expiration of the tax cuts. He is totally giving in to the right without ANY fight at all.
As for the twit from Alaska - her popularity is far more a reflection of the utter stupidity of the general populace than anything else. Forget her politics for a moment! Lets just look at some basic facts -
She QUIT the govt position. Now she is running commercials on a daily basis about how she would rather be fishing and living free than be in some stuffy boring political office!
What the hell makes the morons who drool over her think that if she gets more power than running a backwood state with a smaller population than most cities in the lower 48 she won't just quit again when Congress says no, or the Iranians or the North Koreans don't "listen" to her.
the partisan in me hopes that she gets elected and then quits - it would once and for ALL destroy the idiocy that is the far right in this country and we could actually get somewhere center where this country need to move to.

While the pole does ask a political question, Palin is more of a media figure then a politician. Palin is on the news daily, mostly because of her TV show, her book, her tours, her family, not because her political opinions.
The pole question might have well asked who do you like better, Obama or Justin Bieber.

Yeah, that damn centrist Democrat Obama, his policies are centrist his goals are centrist. His health care refore is not socialist, it forces people to buy private insurance.
No wonder people are mad, he isn't progressive enough.
Which is going to be declared Unconstitutional before it ever goes into effect...
The govt. cannot FORCE commerce and then declare it now has the power to regulate it.
If I choose not to buy something, no commerce has occured, so Congress has no power over a non-act.
And contrary to foolish belief, nobody has to buy car insurance either...if they don't have a car. If they purchase a car that = commerce.

You don't need insurance to own a car either. In fact, the requirement for car insurance is completely unconnected to commerce. What it's connected to is driving a car on public roads. Don't drive a car on public roads, and you won't need insurance. You're free to own a car and drive it on private property to your heart's content without ever obtaining insurance.

actually that's not always true...it depends on which state you live in and if your car is registered or not...
For example, if you register your car in Florida, even though you plan to keep it in storage, the requirement is that it must be insured.
but your overall point is understood.

The title of this thread made me think of one of those stylistic knife fights where the fighters have one hand tied together with a length of cloth.
its very simple. if Sarah Palin actually somehow becomes the GOP nominee for President in 2012, Obama will ruin her. She will be sent home crying to Alaska, with at least a 10 point loss in the electoral college and a loss in the TENS OF MILLIONS in the popular vote.
