Obama tied with generic Republican candidate

Interesting... both Obama AND Romney have been taking a hit over at Intrade recently (each has lost 1-2% in the last five days or so). Weird.

If you look at a slightly longer timeframe, like a month, Romney is up from about 12 to about 16; that's a 33% jump. Shorter term I imagine Michele Bachmann is generating some interest.

Maybe people are turning on to Ron Paul?

Paul's support is narrow but committed.

Well, perhaps it is just the general mood regarding the economy. That's going to be the real deal maker/killer in the 2012 election, methinks.

The whackier the candidate, the more likely that most of that 9% undecided will be heard screaming "OH ****** NOT HER."

I think the real GOP test will be not so much the front runner, but who gets chosen for the VP slot. Romney will likely be the choice up top --- the question is how to get others in the party to go with him by picking a favorable 2nd in command.

Here's the problem. Most of the other candidates who woud make an acceptable VP to attract the moderates would appear to be more suitable to be POTUS than Romney.A candidate who would satisfy the GOP base would scare the bejeebers out of the moderates.

If Ms Moosemeat or Bachman get the nod for VP, the moderates will probably stomp each other to death in a race for the exits.

Obama is terrible president in my opinion - any moderate republican can beat him at this moment. Of course if economy starts to grow he will win anyway.

But still he can win even with economy in currest state if GOP nominates Bachman or Palin.

It's comments like that which make me (and I'm sure others) give no credit to your political analysis. Romney is no idiot --- unless you can actually show otherwise --- and will likely choose an appropriate running mate, one that will have more influence than perhaps Romney himself.

I predicted somewhere on JREF that Obama couldn't get elected no matter what he did. I guess he is going to go down with the ship and veto any budget that doesn't include a tax increase. I don't think even that would make him seem trustworthy to voters. Really, my advice to president Obama is to give all his money to charity and spend the next year visiting orphanages. Probably he should take a few dozen orphans home with him. Kenya has some good ones. Way better than puppies.

If there were any choice that I perceived as better I would vote for them, as it is I will probably not vote for president in the next election for the first time since I was first eligible to vote in 1968.
