This is what Bush should have said. Too bad its taken 8 years.

Of course, this is going to piss off a lot of Israelis and Neo-Zionists. I expect them to start publishing articles about how hateful and racist Islam is. But no one can ever critisize Judaism. That would be anti-Semitic.

ZOA, Daniel Pipes, Michael Savage, Michael Krauthammer, start your engines.

I agree with the statement, but you seriously poisoned the well if you actually want to discuss his statement without it turning into "Zionist, blah blah, Israel, blah blah, terrorists, blah blah". We need so many more threads like that. :covereyes I predict this thread will completely revolve around your second paragraph.

Obama isn't saying anything here that Bush hasn't said.
Bush had also said *repeatedly that the US isn't at war with Iraq.

Perhaps the real complaint here is that Obama's got a Bush speechwriter on staff.

are you saying we ARE at war with Islam?

No, I think WildCat is saying that since Bush said the exact same thing Obama is saying now (that we are not at war with Islam), your statement that "This is what Bush should have said. Too bad its taken 8 years." is rather ill-informed.

The Shrub let his surrogates go on babbling about how evil Islam is when he wanted to ivade Iraq and Iran. The Rushblob and Hannity and Michael Wiener will still go on ranting about the essential enmity between Christians and Muslims regardless.

The Muslim world had no reason to trust the Shrub when he denied that we were at war with Islam specificly because his allies in the media were railling against Islam 24/7.

I hope they do take President Obama at his word and try to come together.

Forgive me, but I trust Obama a WHOLE lot more than I trusted Bush.

I believe that unlike Bush, Obama will make a sincere attempt to rebuild trust and friendship with the Muslim world.

But of course, some fools out there see making nice with Muslims means letting Israel be destroyed. Netanyahu said this right after 9-11 when he said "we will not be treated like the Sudetenland".

So instead of "This is what Bush should have said. Too bad its [sic] taken 8 years." you really meant to say: "This is what Bush has said almost constantly for 8 years, but I missed it" ?

More like "This is what Bush should have said honestly and convincingly."

I, for one, don't recall any instances of Bush being particularly Islamophobic.

Of course, many in his party were, so Bush may have appeared to be defensive or engaging in empty pandering. You know, like how when politicians vote against every gay rights bill but are sure to say that they have gay friends.

But then, I don't recall any major Muslim specific things that Bush personally took a stand on...

Meh, I was in Middle School when 9/11 happened, so I don't remember much :p .

Oh, but there was that thing with profiling. I can't remember if that was especially handled by Bush.
