If Obama truly believes this latest outpouring, why is he continuing to fund the herb dodgers in Tel Aviv and their 60 year pogrom and collective punishment of the Palestinian people?

Israel falls into neither of those. After all, arabs can vote and hold office in the Israeli parliament and some even have cabinet positions.

Didn't we do this before? All the money found its way into Arafat's bank account. Nothing to the people. I expect the same results, with a few rockets to launch at Israel .

Even though this is a EJ thread, we could try an actual discussion.

For instance, it is not clear to me, at this point, exactly what the US want to achieve here. (In Realpolitik terms.) Lets say they pressure Israel to ease the blockade on many issues. Hamas would present this as a big victory in its power struggle against the PA and Abu Mazen. This, in turn, would make the peace talks, which are the corner stone of the US administration policy, much more complicated. In a sense, they will make their own policy less likely to succeed.

I should add that if the administration somehow think they could somehow present the easing of the blockade as an achievement of the PA and not of Hamas, then they are seriously deluding themselves. This would not be believed.
