Obama ruins the internet

Comcast deleted net neutrality pledge the same day FCC announced repeal

Starting in 2014, the webpage, corporate.comcast.com/openinternet/open-net-neutrality, contained this statement: "Comcast doesn't prioritize Internet traffic or create paid fast lanes."

Comcast hints at plan for paid fast lanes after net neutrality repeal

That statement remained on the page until April 26 of this year, according to page captures from the Internet Archive's WayBack Machine.

But on April 27, the paid prioritization pledge was nowhere to be found on that page and remains absent now.

What changed? It was on April 26 that FCC Chairman Ajit Pai announced the first version of his plan to eliminate net neutrality rules. Since then, Pai has finalized his repeal plan, and the FCC will vote to drop the rules on December 14.

Reminds me of a line from the FunnyorDie skit "Thanks, Bank of America":

"Whenever anyone notices any of the terrible **** we do, and makes enough of a stink about it, we won't do it anymore...at least for a while."

So Comcast, now that you no longer have Title II protections, and aren't a utility I guess I can cut your line running across my yard (which will cut off about half the subdivision) unless you pay me whatever monthly fee I deem appropriate? Right??? I mean regulations are BAD, Freedoom RARGH!

No, because I can't afford to buy any regulators/congressmen.

ETA: can't wait for my dad to call me for tech support because foxnews.com redirects him to nbcnews.com .

Heard a bit of the dissent and final supporting comment for more relaxed ownership limits and UHF discount modifications. Always a punch in the gut to hear good oratory referencing great intellects (many of whom witnessed tyranny propagated over airwaves firsthand) defeated by those who snicker under their breath at the same.

Whoever supplies Congress with their internet needs to start some appropriate 'prioritisation' of traffic.

So much winning, I don't believe it. See, Trump hasn't been just watching TV and playing golf; he's been "working hard for the people" just like he promised. (If you didn't know which people, shame on you.)

The ISPs love this.

However, once the DC area gets charged for prioritization of their porn, just watch how the bills restoring network neutrality fly!

Can someone explain the argument for how this benefits the American people?

Or does it just come down to "it will make internet providers more profitable and that is good for everyone"?

Can someone explain to me the benefit(s) of undoing Net Neutrality?

I've been trying to figure this out...and I just can't.

Let me help.

ISPs will be able to charge more than the basic service fee for some things, either from websites or users, increasing their profits.

The only argument I've really heard put forward (which doesn't make any sense to me) is that the main reason the internet grew and thrived and spawned a million businesses and jobs, was that it was completely unregulated, leaving companies free to develop and innovate without government interference.

But Obama instituting "net neutrality" was technically a regulation, therefore it will kill innovation. Because that's what regulations do, apparently.

Twitter is popular, let's charge extra for Twitter.

ebay is polular, let's charge extra for ebay.

Facebook is popular let's chargge extra for Facebook.

Web searches are popular, lets charge extra for ... etc

Different packages for different activities.

Social Media extra pack, Movie viewing extra pack.

Use your imagination.

Well, it will allow bigger well-established companies to essentially deprioritize the traffic of their competitors' startups to the point that they are unusable, thus destroying small business and squashing innovation and allowing the older companies to monopolize their markets, regardless of merit.

...or did you mean benefit to you?

WASHINGTON, Dec 14 (Reuters) - New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said on Thursday he would lead a multi-state legal challenge to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission vote to reverse landmark the 2015 net neutrality rules.

Schneiderman, a Democrat, said in a statement that states “will sue to stop the FCC’s illegal rollback of net neutrality.”

The American Civil Liberties Union also pledged a court fight after the 3-2 vote and a trade group representing companies like Facebook Inc and Alphabet Inc said it opposed the reversal and was weighing legal options.
