It seems Obama took the first part of his "lipstick on a pig" line directly from a Tom Toles cartoon in the Washington Post. The Obama line on Sept. 9:

Almost verbatim from this cartoon from Sept. 5:

Try putting lipstick on that pig Barack! Is Joe Biden "writing" his speeches now?

Its a line anyone could come up with. The cartoon is what we call "trite". Move along.

Biden has now infected Obama with his penchant for plagiarism. Taking passages from any published source, cartoons included, without attribution is hardly "trite."

Obama used the line in his interview with Keith Olbermann, giving credit to Toles.
OK, so the great orator resorted to having a political cartoonist write his speech for him. Just like Abe Lincoln!

It's a good line. It resonates with Obama's message. He did not claim it was original: according to NotJesus, he referenced Toles when he first used it.

We are not talking about, say, quoting from Wikipedia about the Georgia crisis without referencing them:

* Wikipedia – ....one of the first countries in the world to adopt Christianity as an official religion.

* McCain – ....one of the world's first nations to adopt Christianity as an official religion.

* Wikipedia – After the Russian Revolution of 1917, Georgia had a brief period of independence as a Democratic Republic (1918-1921), which was terminated by the Red Army invasion of Georgia. Georgia became part of the Soviet Union in 1922 and regained its independence in 1991. Early post-Soviet years was marked by a civil unrest and economic crisis.

* McCain – After a brief period of independence following the Russian revolution, the Red Army forced Georgia to join the Soviet Union in 1922. As the Soviet Union crumbled at the end of the Cold War, Georgia regained its independence in 1991, but its early years were marked by instability, corruption, and economic crises.

Shouldn't you be more upset about the fact that it's a true statement?
I'm not actually upset about it at all. Don't you guys need a break from all the Palin madness? The woman who will kill all the polar bears, destroy the world in nuclear holocaust, claim her kid's baby as her own, force schools to teach creationism, burn books, have sordid affairs with the hubby's friends, created a small-town dictatorship, hacked the computers of political enemies, etc etc...

I just thought it was funny that the greatest speaker since MLK Jr. couldn't figure out how to atack his opponent without taking a line from a cartoon to try to show that the guy formerly known as "the maverick" for his independence is really exactly the same. This coming from the guy who will bring "change" to Washington, even though he's never strayed from the party line on a single issue in his entire poitical career.

Ahh, right wing spam!

Tastes just as awful as the lefty stuff............

:spam4

McCain plagiarizes Mark Salter without attribution almost every time he opens his mouth. Palin, too.

I'm wondering, in Palin's interview last night, she claimed her comment about being on a mission from God (paraphrased) at the church was actually quoting Lincoln. Did she ever attribute it to him before she got called out for it?

who you calling "you guys"?

So you continue to avoid the fact that the point Obama made was valid.

Face it, Wildcat, you just can't attack Obama on the issues, so you have to mock the way he describes the mess we're in and the inanity of McCains responses.
