I'm not an Obama basher and I have mixed feelings about the politics of global warming policy, but I think that this story proves that the Obama administration is not serious about global warming.

Obama signs bill to boost US tourism promotion

WASHINGTON (AFP) – Looking for an edge in the global war for tourism dollars, US President Barack Obama Thursday signed into law moves to attract more overseas travelers.

Obama signed the act "which establishes a corporation for travel promotion to encourage international travel to the United States," the White House said in a statement.
Whatever the possible benefits might be, if it actually works (which seems dubious) the effect would be to increase the consumption of fossil fuels. Introducing a new policy intended to encourage an increase in fossil fuel consumption suggests that they don't really believe that global warming is a serious problem.

Obama is simply playing the game. He know what people generally are interested in and is attempting to cater to that.

News flash: Obama is a politician.

You live in a world where the masses rule. By definition, group decisions are not made rationally: they are made by a popularity of opinion. And that means any and every group whether they are the American Geophysical Union or the College of Cardinals.

There is no Easter bunny.

There is no tooth fairy.

And you better sit down for the news about Santa Claus...

The fact that you believe that members of any given group are rational does not make it so. The fact that you believe you are rational does not make it so. The fact that you believe AGW is real does not make it so, and the fact that I find insufficient evidence does not make it false.

Anything beginning with "Obama is not serious about" is fairly obvious.
He's a politician to the bone marrow, not just the bone. My expectations for Obama were rather low, but he managed to sink lower still within his first year.

"Let's attract tourists to come to the US!"

"How?"

"Ummm, let's charge them $10."

I assume that actually reduces paperwork and/or is a smaller charge.

I don't think that necessarily follows. Yes, it might increase fossil fuel consumption in this one area but that doesn't mean you couldn't make up for that consumption with other policies.
