Well, I don't really think so.

But, if he wins, then -- for the next four years -- my fear is that just this slogan is going to be the "explanation" for ANYTHING he does, just like "Bush is an idiot murderer!" was the "explanation" for ANYTHING Bush did.

I really hope that, if he wins, I will be proven wrong here and the right will be more responsible than the left had been. But if the US merely replaces "Bush derangement syndrome" with "Obama derangement syndrome" -- or, what would be even worse, with "Obama glorification syndrome" -- then I despair.

You are wrong. Obama Derangement Syndrome is already here. And the only reason you don't see McCain derangment Syndrome more is that he is not expected to win anyway. But if he does, McCain Derangement Syndrome WILL occur.

Further expect [Insert Name of New Presdient Here] Derangement Syndrome to crop up in either 2012 or 2016, depending on whether the winner in 2008 gets a second term.

It's the new thing.

Thank you Quixotecoyote and Grizzly Bear for showing us that while W may indeed be thought of as a murderer, he is at least innocent of murdering idiots.

Are you saying that about 75% of the country in recent counts are "the left"? Or are you saying that everyone on the left has BDS? Or just tarring the entire left with a brush that should be reserved for the far left loon section?

Seriously, you hope the right will be more responsible than the left? At least for nearly all of the left Bush had to actually get into office and do some stuff badly before he was abused. Obama is already being called terrorist, communist and just about every name the far right can throw out there short of the N word, and in many cases it is not just the far right doing it.

Google searches bring up some odd results depending on the search terms you use :p

I'll hope that I'm wrong as well, but if the pattern goes on as I expect it, whoever gets elected will start as popular only to be thrashed by the end of their term for one thing or another.... It doesn't even build into the next president's potential policies yet actually...

My point was that skeptic is trying to pre-emptively form a fallacious moral equivalence from the assumption that those on "the left" have used "Bush is an idiot murderer" in response to all of his failings. However, the first time that phrase was used on the JREF was today, by him.

Showing all results from every website in every context for Bush + murder doesn't support the argument (as the plethora of bush + toothpaste results was meant to point out), but showing that his phrase hasn't been used at all in the most immediate context indicates problems with it.

Now, granted, many people call Bush a murderer. I might do that myself for certain definitions of murder. He is responsible for starting an unneccesary war in which people were killed, people who would not have been killed without his actions. However, I certainly don't use that to explain everything he does and I doubt it's an especially common tactic outside the truther/ct'ist circles.

Some time ago I argued that Bush-hatred was different in kind from Clinton-hatred (the "Derangement Syndrome" meme didn't exist yet).

"Hating Bush is like being in love. Everything reminds you of that special someone."

More hysterical, more irrational, and above all more obsessive. You could be talking about anything, and it would get sidetracked into a rant about Bush.

I still think I was right about this.

With that as a background, I will agree with you that Obama Derangement Syndrome is already here. Futhermore, I'll go a step further and say it's a more advanced case because it's fully developed and the man isn't even president yet.

IIRC, you didn't get this level of bile against George during the 2000 campaign, only after the "selection".

The current long term trend is toward more derangement.

Sarah Palin has soaked up all the derangement from the Democrat side for the time being, so McCain gets a rest.

Anybody want to start a pool about when the first "Impeach Obama" bumpersticker is sighted in the wild?

The worst thing anyone said about George in the 2000 campaign is that he was an "isolationist" and that he lacked "gravitas".

You know that is going to happen. Just look at the GOP when Clinton was in office.
No wonder so many people are getting a "Plague on Both Your Houses" attitude toward the major parties.
It's just a shame that all the smaller parties are so extreme that they are even worse then the major parties.
If they get a third party going that is aimed on the centrists in this country who don't like the ideologues who control both major parties I will sign on so fast it would make The Flash look like a slowpoke.

It's the old thing, really. It is what happened in the 1840 and 1850's...and look what Happened in the 1860's.
And I see that the blind partisans are already at work explaining why the other guys Derangement syndrome is stupid and evil ,but their Derangement syndrome is totally justified.

Skeptic,

I don't think you've created enough worthless threads this week. You have less than 12 hours to meet your quota.

Of course members of the right such a Rush Limpbaugh and his ill are going to cry their asses off for at least four years. I think to assume otherwise is naive.

Bush is no murder...

(this is an intentional setup)

I agree. I think Bush is an incompetent moron, who will properly be remembered in the annals of history for his ideological tunnel-vision, arrogance, dishonesty, and ineptitude. Should various Congressional investigations ever come to fruition, I feel that we'll likely learn that he's been up to much more skullduggery.

But these qualities do not make a murderer.

Please folks, knock this crap off. It's just fueling the damned fire...

Agreed. The confirmation bias here is so damn thick you could cut it with a knife
