Obama Hubris Watch

The best quarterbacks I can think of were probably very cocky about their prospects when they were rookies. Who really wants one that isn't? Confidence is not only a trait of a winner, it's also sexy. :)
It can also be the trait of an all-time world class loser, as Cade McNown proved conclusively. :p

I still think that seal is tacky. I still want it on a white Frisbee. I think that would be pretty cool.

Another gotcha Obama thread blown out of the water. Keep them coming, guys. :D

Not a gotcha thread. A poor attempt at taking a meme about Bush and applying it to Obama. Unfortunately, the huge presidential seal thing followed by weak examples doomed it.

The only thing that was surprising about this thread is that Upchurch didn't post in it defending Barack Obama. I thought there was no hope for that guy after he practically fainted during the Rev. Wright race speech by Obama. And- awww crap. Nevermind, he was here.

Dude, haven't you heard? McCain has already been elected.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0708/Dept_of_fake_news_McCain_defeats_Clinton.html

Maybe McCain will be able to master those difficult internets skills the coming months to read about it for himself.
What's really funny about this is how detailed it is. "Political experts expressed surprise that McCain was able to wrest the mantle of change away from Clinton..."

Speaking of hubris, McCain says he knows how to capture Bin Laden, and promises to do so if elected president.

If he knows how to capture Bin Laden, maybe he should share this secret knowledge with the current president, rather than hold on to it as an enticement to vote for him.

John McCain would rather win an election than capture Bin Laden. :D

Of course, it's probably just another wet dream he had, like the one about beating Hillary Clinton.

This thread has already failed, your services are not required.

He's just doing the same thing you're guy Kerry did back in 2004. Remember his secret plan for Iraq? Of course having a secret plan didn't help him all that much. McCain should take note. :D

Give Dana Milbank all the credit for this one. I didn't have to do any additional work.

A tradition which, of course, was started by Richard Nixon with his "secret plan to end the war in Viet Nam"... It was all the rage in that party back in '72... can't remember... could it have been

The Republicans ????

The best result for the November election is to have Obama up by ten percentage points going in and lose in a landslide to McCain. This would put Obama in his place.

The only problem with this is McCain would think he had some type of mandate and that the votes he received were actually for him and not against Obama.

For anyone else I'd say that was an interesting accidental turn of phrase (bolded part). Knowing you, MaGZ, I'm sure it wasn't. You probably forget when you're not posting over at WhiteIsRight dot com, don't you?

So after we put him in his place, what then? Can you help get him a job up at the big house? Maybe in the kitchen? I'm sure he's no front hall niggra, but he's a nice enough boy (if he only knew his place), and I'd sho' hate to think o' him habbing to work in dem tabacka fields agin, Mars MaGZ. If'n y'all could do that for us, we'd be entirely grateful, suh!

I read that as well and couldn't help laugh at the foolishness of it.
It seems rather clear to me that Whatever Obama's "place" is, it is of higher distinction and accomplishment than a hate filled internet bigot.

I don't spend a lot of time pondering a belief in God, but at times it seems like the best evidence for his existence is what happens to those who demonstrate hubris and overconfidence. Let a team celebrate a victory in the eight inning or third quarter, and you can almost guarantee that there will be a comeback.

Yes, because helping His favorite athletes win at sports is one of His favorite pastimes. And most of them don't fail to thank Him for it. :D

Stopping genocides and tryants however is usually not not high on his to-do list, it seems. Clearly The Almighty has His priorities straight. ;)

ETA: So if Obama wins, I presume you will take that as evidence that God doesn't exist?

Not a gotcha thread.
Please, this was totally a gotcha thread based on bad reporting and a distinct lack of skepticism of the source.

Brainster took an out-of-context quote snippet that Obama sound like an arrogant SOB and made a thread about it without looking up the source. He reinforced it with a list of things that every presidential campaign does.

It is the very definition of a gotcha thread.

Yes, your fairly inaccurate caricature has failed yet again. Especially after this fail, isn't it about time you put it to bed?

Not all people who support Obama are irrational about it. ...and as you have demonstrated, not all those who don't support Obama are necessarily rational about it.

Yup. Exercising my MO degree Master of the Obvious, this is why it's important for skeptics not to rely on (and echo) snippets, but to check original sources in context. Unless the intent is to mislead of course.

LOL! You can't make this stuff up (unless your name is Dana Milbank):

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's big speech on Thursday night will be delivered from an elaborate columned stage resembling a miniature Greek temple.

The stage, similar to structures used for rock concerts, has been set up at the 50-yard-line, the midpoint of Invesco Field, the stadium where the Denver Broncos' National Football League team plays.

Photo here.

Maybe he could do a bare-chested Hercules pulling down the temple bit at the end?

Yep...pretty outrageous that his image people would dare to use Greek Columns in a PR-driven attempt to lend some gravitas to the situation. It is, of course, unheard of...

http://thinkprogress.org/2008/08/27/greek-columns-hypocrisy/

And something the Republicans would never do....Of course, when they do it, it looks like old white men at the Plantation, whereas if Obama were to do it it would look like angry black man taking over the plantation?

Well, (Mcain was a POW), at least we can (Mcain was a POW) count on the GOP (Mcain was a POW) not to do anything foolish (Mcain was a POW) tacky(Mcain was a POW) or heavy-handed (Mcain was a POW) or use any too-well worn symbolism (Mcain was a POW AND he wears flag pins so you know he's a real patriot) in trying to bolster McCain -- who was a POW.

White House briefing room with Greek Columns...BTW.

Yes, you certainly wouldn't expect a candidate for president to try and look "presidential" (hubris and all)....nope, no Presidential candidate has ever before tried to use back-drops and symbols to give the impression of a Presidential persona...it is only uppity-Obama. BTW...did you know that John McCain was a POW? It is the reason he need not really answer any questions....
