Obama commutes Chelsea Manning sentence.

Sorry I blacked out around 11 I wish I knew... Someone gave me a case of wine and I really enjoyed it too much.

I guess this just all proves how important propaganda is, the details of how Manning ********** over the planet big time are clear. The intangibles about how it looks to others, actually leading to deaths, that's very interesting and worth noting. I mean pretty much any event or news sends the crazies off killing people in the name of Allah... this is why we need to focus on education and critical thinking, spreading that to the hellholes of the world, to inoculate people from going crazy after reading the news.

This is a lesson for journalists who go around "free lance" on the battlefield of their own accord. They are responsible for what happens to them, not those who might mistake them or their equipment for enemy combatants or their possession of weapons.
"Embedded" journalists are by definition propaganda tools for the military - that's the sole purpose of the concept.

Objective reporting requires journalists to operate independently. And the Geneva Conventions Article 79 of Additional Protocol I provides that journalists are entitled to all rights and protections granted to civilians in international armed conflicts.

You don't like it. Then don't ever send the US Military into War. This sort of **** happens.
Indeed - the US military should only be sent to war to protect important national interests, and never for "humanitarian" purposes, because the **** outweighs the gain.

Now there is a dilemma:
- From US military propaganda you would never know "humanitarian interventions" are counter-productive humanitarian-wise. (Only bad guys are killed, the military helps to rebuild, bla bla bla.)
- Whisttleblowers like Manning, and independent journalists inform the public of the real humanitarian cost of war.

So what do you want to achieve, public support for more or fewer wars?

Showing the existing horrors might prevent some future ones.

I don't think Evan Wright's Generation Kill makes the military come off particularly well. Certainly not those who are not on the ground.
