The law would allow folks who have obtained a handgun carry license to carry a handgun in any state in the union, regardless if the other states have stricter handgun laws.

So, one can get a handgun carry permit in Vermont, which only requires that you be 16, and legally carry a handgun in the Bronx.

This is a NRA member's wet dream....and a New Yorkers worst nightmare.

I will be very very afraid if this law passes.

Of course you will. Most likely because you've drank Bloomturd's anti-gun Kool-Aid. Do you have any reason that's based on evidence that you should be afraid if such a bill passes?

Oh, and "evidence" that consists of "more people will have guns" is not evidence at all.

NYC has very strict handgun laws. Vermont and many other states do not. If this law passes, people from all over the country, can walk around MY city, carrying a gun, and the NYPD can't do **** about it.

it will be illegal for the New York Police Department to enforce New York laws..in New York.

Talk about the federal govt. overstepping its bounds!!!

that scares me.

Why does this scare you?

No, it won't. It simply extends the full faith and credit clause to cover handgun permits issued in other states. It's just like a driver's license.

Stop being so melodramatic.

Talk about the federal govt. overstepping its bounds!!!
I don't necessarily agree with the legislation, but I am still puzzled by your apoplectic response to it.

that scares me.
Again, I request fact-based reasons for this tizzy in which you find yourself.

Handgun carry permits are given away too easily in many states, in my humble opinion.

i do not want these people carrying guns in my city.

unless the Federal government is going to pass a law saying the laws of all states are valid in all other states, I think this law should be canned.

And this opinion is backed up by what objective facts?

If it's just your opinion, why should anyone listen to you when you spout it?

i do not want these people carrying guns in my city.
And I don't want my federal taxes going to fund programs not specifically authorized by the Constitution, the way it was supposed to be in the first place.

I'll agree to your desire if you'll agree to mine. Regardless, what YOU ir I want is pretty much irrelevant.

There are many permits that are generally accepted across state lines, oftentimes regulated at the federal level under the interstate commerce clause. Right or wrong, that's the way it is. Given what I've inferred your position to be on domestic regulation and laws at the federal level, it seems odd to be throwing a fit over this particular (possible) overreach of federal authority when you ignore or support so, so, so many others.

If that's all you've got then I think we should all dismiss your fears as baseless and irrational.

I bid good day to you, sir.

It is Irrational to be against making it easier for people to pack a handgun down thier pants......

what sort of definition of "irrational" does that require?

You fear people who go through the education and permit process to _legally_ carry a firearm then legally do so?

You have issues dude. Those are pretty much the good guys. It is the people who carry illegally (aka, the bad guys) who are already out there and committing crimes with those guns that you need to be in fear of. Or you could stop get a carry permit and stop fearing them as well....

I hope that there is enough support to shoot it down. (pun intended)

There are reasons why states have their own gun ownership laws. What could be good for the midwestern states, in towns that have low crime rates, may not be good for big cities with bad crime rates

ETA: Before anyone else comments, I went through gun education and handling; trained with a police officer (my brother in law) and earned my gun carry permit in Hawaii and now in California. I own four guns, all which are stored off site, with a friend who owns a gun club. But I learned to use a gun properly.

With the way things are, certain states do not even go through the process of training. YOU just sign a piece of paper, and 15 days later you get a permit. No education required. No safety lessons, not even a class on how to handle guns. And how many states even check the background histories (correctly) and just blindly hand out permits just so they have less paper work to deal with?

Im all for ownership; I just think that there should be a REQUIRED process into owning a gun. Damn, WE HAVE to go through more hoops in getting a Drivers License (testing, driving, etc) yet people can just walk into a shop and buy a gun...

I didn't say it was irrational to be against the legislation. I said his fear of it was irrational because he couldn't provide any evidence beyond a knee-jerk reaction to support it.

As it stands now, his fear is no more warranted than a old lady clutching her purse tightly when a black man walks by.

I'm for it.

If you go through the trouble of obtaining a conceal-and-carry permit, I fail to see why you lose the right to carry by traveling to another state. It especially doesn't make sense in an area like New England, where you cross into another state when you get up to use the can.

Your modern Republican Party: for states' rights ... except when they're not.

Buying a gun on the streets is way to easy!
You probably have thousands of guns being carried by all the gang bangers in NY,I would think those are the guns you need to go after!

Thanks for reminding me that I have to get my concealed carry permit!

Of course as a resident of NYS, I get to go through all the fun that entails. *sigh* I see no reason to not extend the carry right to other states if those states have similar or lesser carry requirements and courses.

Kind of like getting a teaching certificate from New York or Cali. It's harder there than anywhere else so it is accepted everywhere else (mostly).
