nurse cuffed by cop for not breaking law

Thank you.
Perhaps you didn't understand me. I said, "If you really think that liberty and justice would be better served with no police force, I really have no suggestion where you could realistically find such a society."

To restate, I have no idea where or how a free and just society without a police force can be found. Could you describe for us the attributes of such a place?

Heaven.

Short of that, you're out of luck.

I said police were necessary.

Why? You want them to be able to do as little as possible, ideally nothing. You are marvelously vague when describing what powers they should have.

You don't even want them rendering first aid (post #113). Taking you at your word, you would rather you and yours bleed to death than empower a policeman to apply a bandage.

Or was there something you neglected to say?

Collecting evidence, arresting people, traffic stops, etc.

No "etc" allowed. Write a job description for your ideal cop. Include instructions for what he is to do when faced with a situation outside of that xescription. Which begs the question, How much discretion are you going to allow him?

Nope, not going to do that. I'm fine with saying law enforcement only. If you want to ask specific things, I will answer that.

All right. Two-car accident, five people involved; injuries include minor scrapes, a couple of broken bones, a sucking chest wound. The nearest available fire and rescue are 10 minutes out, the hospital an additional 10 minutes. No one else is around. What are the cop's duties and responsibilities?

To investigate the cause of the accident.

In Bob's world, cops are supposed to just watch people die even when they could save them. What kind of person does Bob imagine will become a cop under such conditions? Does Bob really think that such people will be more likely to respect his freedoms than cops who try to save people's lives?

It doesn't make any sense. None whatsoever.

It is irrelevant if the police force is worse. If we cannot be free as a society while staffing a police force then we do not deserve a police force. It is the only acceptable options.

I watched the video and I can't understand how the police officer thought he had legal authority to draw blood. The patient wasn't under arrest, he had no warrant and was not in a state to give consent. Where's the authority to get a blood draw? How could implied consent even apply here? This isn't complicated; it's basic police academy 101 stuff.

Long time ago Utah cops had "implied consent". They could ask someone if they objected to the cop taking a blood sample, and if they didn't hear an objection, take a sample.

The defective was just a little bit behind a 2007 change in the law,

But where in that would a cop be able to compel the nurse?

How?

Cops are the monopolization of violence by the state. An expansion of their responsibility distorts their responsibilities. If police have a broader responsibility, it could lead to ideas such as law and order being more important than the rule of law (sheriff Joe)

It is in their very motto: to protect and to serve. The things I unilaterally protect are things I view myself as master and superior of.
