The controversial chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Gergory Jazco, has resigned under an investigatory cloud. He has been accused by the other commission members of brow-beating and foot dragging in the process of licensing new nuclear power generation stations.
A presidential spokesman says they'll expedite appointing a new chair, but the speculation is that they will let it languish through the elections.
Jazco has been seen as a decided critic of nuclear power. His resignation was greeted with glee among most republicans, and dismay from most democrats. Personally, I was not aware that reactor licensing was such a partisan issue, but I guess that almost anything can be politicized when the parties set their minds to it.
EDT: Pardon me, the man's name is Gregory Jaczko. Sorry for the misspelling. Some mod needs to change it in the title as well.
